Not to worry, the Public Sector workers won't get off their behinds to process their claims so it won't cost a cent.

The amounts of welfare received are relative to the standard of living in each country, no? Ireland´s still a very expensive place to live even if we have very large dole queues.
And according to the premise of this thread, the ´welfare tourists´would have to come here and live here for 3 months without work or any social welfare before they could start claiming money off the state. I can´t see many doing that, tbh.

Who is going to want to come here with the mess the economy is in currently.

People from the likes of Poland, Lithuania came because of the booming economy and the opportunity to work. How many people are coming from those countries today ? I don't have the stats but I can't imagine there will be many. The same will be true for the other countries who will soon have the same opportunity. They'll only come if there are opportunities here. And sitting and living off the dole isn't an opportunity, however generous some people seem to think our system is.

i dont think anyone realises, but being in europe opens our doors to about half a billion people to freely live here

I will be in contact with my local TDs to ensure they have all the relevant social welfare documents in each and every language for our new welfare tourists. Maybe the aircoach can stop off at the social welfare offices on route.

Cead mile failte and all that.

Have you heard of the new motorways built with EU money or farming subsidies. It also allows Irish people to live in the EU.

They can sign on with the health board whilst their claim is being processed. The fundamentals to this proposal are sound. There is a Plan B in place.

Meh, you can't blame those who take advantage of it... They're not the ones who created it.

Can that be applied to everyone that sets out to rob things not created by them?

It's more damaging to the good-willed immigrants who are here to work and lend something to society more than anything

Maybe the property market will improve, I'd say there'll be a rush to buy shoeboxes.

There is no real social welfare system in place in these countries. Unemployed in Treasure Ireland or eastern europe. What would you choose?

Just to be clear; Eastern Europe is everything East of Lambay Island? We have to differentiate between Ireland* and the restofem.

Its is a geo-political term mainly used to describe citizens from the new accession states. As readers take offense, from now on I will refer to them as accession state nationals. I hope that is politically correct.

I repent for using a non PC term.

Hey, being unemployed and on benefits here in Ireland is better to these people than even working and earning in their own country. Being Irish and on benefits it may not be all that nice, but remember, these people are coming from countries that are not at all close to being as generous with their hand outs. You cannot blame them flocking here.

Um nothing to do with being PC,I'm sure if someone repeatedly called you British as the Island of Ireland is included in the British Isles you wouldn't take offense?

I would politely point out that I am a european from the heart of europe. Once we put that little issue to bed we could bellow out the Ode to Joy over a 568ml glass of beer.
