How much does that cost you a week? 150/200 euro?

He probably has a Cineworld Unlimited Card.

No, I'll pay full prices as I am aware they have to charge what they do
I have never smuggled food in, i carry it openly for all to see and have never been questioned by staff. I don't think the staff really care to be honest.

That wasn't an outdoor cinema, it was the bushes in a park at night.

    And that wasn't a grill, it was a spit-roast.

    But yeah, good times alright!

    ;)

I body-pack it or carry it in a false-bottomed briefcase.
In the more security conscious cinemas I´ve been known to smuggle it internally to avoid the x-rays.

    I wish. dream job :(
    bonerm wrote: »
Out of interest do you just watch everything that comes out? That seems like a lot of times to go to the cinema

    Yup, see everything :)

I don't watch trailers and never read about movies until after I have seen a film. Especially see all movies that show at the IFI.

It's not that many three movies there and three or four between all the rest. Love movies ever since I was kid.

Only thing about the UCI cinema's is that the seats are pure shíte. I cant get comfy in them.

Yeah, hard as a rock :p

even if I lived next door as 90% of what comes out is just rubbish.

I would say 60%, everything else will have something good about it.

Leap Year is the biggest piece of trash out right now, good if you're drunk I'd say though :)

Luckily my eyes and ears work independently of my mouth... so I'm perfectly capable of enjoying a film in the cinema for an hour and a half without the need for sustenance.

I do enjoy a coffee though on occasion in the cinemas that do them in paper cups.

Cineworld has a lidl and aldi right next to it - hell yes I smuggle stuff in

You see, the problem is with the way cinemas are set up, not just here but in the Uk as well.

The cinemas themselves get close to none of the ticket money so they have to charge crazy money for the food.

On opening weekend, they only get about 5% of your ticket money. So, for examply, your ticket was 10 euro, the cinema only gets about 50c. The rest goes to the distributor.

The percentage increases after a couple of weeks but by that stage most people have viewed the money so the ticket money is still worth damn all to them.

Hence the ridiculous prices for coke, popcorn etc.

Did you see the Cineworld have written on their time listings brochure thingamajigs:

"Only food purchased in from inside the cinema will be allowed into the auditorium."

    For ages they just had:

"Patrons are asked not to bring bags into the cinema".

They changed that recently in Cineworld so they must get peeved.

I would say the make 90% of the revenue from food and drink.

The mark-up on tickets would be very little.

    EDIT: Kraggy beat me :)

I pay but to be honest, the prices are ridiculous and I'm beginning to think about smuggling
Yes the prices are a rip off but alas, I regularly pay the full whack. :o The only thing I draw the line at is water. I went to buy a bottle of water one time in the cinema, I hand the bloke €2, and he says to me "that will be another €1.50 please".

I rarely buy food at the cinema. As someone else said, I never understood this idea of buying truckloads of sweets before you see a movie. I just go for the movie, if im lucky for other things. ;)

Went to see Solomon Kane with a couple of friends last week. I spent just 8 quid while large popcorns n drinks brought them up to around 18 euro each
    Id rather starve tbh.

Vue in Liffey Valley, where i'd go most often is a lot more relaxed.

    10. Hot food brought from outside of the cinema may not be consumed on the premises.

Where's the "I'm capable of sitting down down for 1-2 hours without having to stuff myself with ****e" option?

    This.

Well, I can't actually eat popcorn at the moment, so obviously I don't buy it. Before I got my braces I would, obviously.

I hardly 'sneak in' the food though; I'll pop to a corner shop/Tesco before and just take in the bag. No way am I paying the prices in the cinema, ridiculous.

Should smuggle but dont. Then again I have my 'method'. whereby I buy a large popcorn and a large bag of malteasers.
I then eat/poor out the top fifth of the popcorn and fire in the malteasers.
I then mix them all up together and the rest of my cinema experience will be mixed with delight and surprise at my popcorn:malteaser ratio :)

The thread is for foodies really.

People who go to the cinema and don't at least have a pack of chewing gum should be shot.

People do be sitting there with their Popcorn, Fanta, Coffee, Hot Dogs, Chuppa Chups and Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey Ice Creams :D

Then in comes two spoons with not so much as fcuking Biscuit between them

People like that make everyone feel uncomfortable and guilty just for having some munchies for the movie

It's the pictures, buy some popcorn .. cheer up ffs!!

The price of food in cinemas is so high because they make next to nothing on the films. The big five distributors control the prices and along with other monopolistic practices like block booking and blind booking, cinema's have to take what they're given. Hence the push towards selling you popcorn and beer / hot food (where available). Look at Cineworld Parnell St - it's more of pub / arcade than a cinema.
