Do you go to Mass anymore?

Back in the day I would have got a clatter for lying here on the sofa at this hour on a Sunday.

Remember one time my dad threw me out the door with a tea strainer in my hand and no shoes on and told me to get to Mass or he'd ..

Did you go much when young? Were you punished if you didn't?

Or did you bounce of and go to the chippers with money you were given for the collection box :eek:

Sometimes I do find myself in a church just to light a candle. Don't know why. I'm not religious in the slightest.

Do believe in the afterlife though.

I find it peaceful sometimes, especially the chapel in the Dublin airport as I grew up going to mass there.

So how about you, do you attend mass or go to a church at all?

Yeah, I go every week. I try to get the earliest one because the noon one makes the rest of the day feel so short.

I go now and again.
Sometimes once a month, sometimes more frequent.
I aint a great catholic or anything like that but I enjoy the particular mass I go to. Find it a kind of therapy and a break from the hustle and bustle.

Also, what mass is on this late on a sunday?
Are you in a different timezone at the moment......

In saying that we did have the Parish Priest down to the house today but he's sound enough

Only for weddings, funerals and christenings. Events that are more about family than religion, as I'm atheist and don't believe a word of religion.

I don't feel like sitting on a hard bench for thirty odd minutes listening to some aul lad droning on about something I dont believe in when I could be doing something entertaining and productive like sleeping.

I try to avoid funerals aswell. Might go to a wedding out of respect for the couple but not for the religion.

I used to go to mass, but that was just a con so I could get some money on communion and confirmation day :pac: just like I pretended to believe in santa for a few extra years to get better presents for longer, cause the second they know you know its back to socks and shirts and the occasional book :rolleyes:

Would people refuse to go to weddings, christenings and funerals because of their non belief? That's crazy imo. Showing support to loved ones is much more important than showing your disapproval of the Church.

Nope. Never did, but that has more to do with me being a "dirty hun."

Actually, I've been in a catholic chuch more times in the last 3 years than my own church, but that has mostly been funerals/weddings/children washing things.

I do occasionally go to church, if I happen to have a Sunday off work, but thats more for the sake of giving my mother someone to go to church with than my actual belief, or lack thereof.

Also, kinda have to make my face at least known by the new minister, might need him to do a gig at our upcoming nuptuals. (Is gig the right word for what priests and ministers do? I don't think it is.)

Usually only on Christmas Eve, maybe the odd Easter and funerals, weddings, christenings, communions, confirmations and stuff. Both parents aren't a bit religious.
I've been feeling kinda religious the past few weeks, though, like praying before bed and stuff.

I was at a Protestant wedding last year so I'm still trying to get the devil out of my soul.:pac:

Funerals:

To pay respect for the way that person choose to be... through the way they choose to be remebered after they died...

Weddings:

Jaysus... wouldn't be nice for the other folks to think I was there just for the piss up...

Xmas 09 was my last mass, not going again except for funerals etc. There are far more constructive ways to spend your time than listening to sh!t from a pulpit. If I ever get hitched it'll be the registry office.

Just weddings and funerals. I probably wouldn't bother with a christening.

Was in stitches at my granddad's first anniversary mass, the priest had seemingly no control over the pitch of his voice, which would vary wildly from one word to the next. If he's on again I might go for the craic.

Every week as a child and adult. Never punished cause it was not a problem. I had intended to be a priest but then saw my wife with the big juggs

My family went to mass every Sunday without fail, plus we knelt down and said the rosary every night.

At 17, I began to question the whole thing and didn't want to go to mass, but I was forced to go.

At 19, I started college in London and felt great freedom - now I could do as I wished and not attend mass was high on my list!

I continued this pattern of rebellion until I was 38. My husband however attended mass regularly and took my son with him. One day, my son wouldn't go and I told him he had to go (becuase I wanted peace to do the housework for an hour!) - my husband glared at me and said "How can you tell him to go to mass when you don't go yourself"

So i started going again - and it's not so bad.

Nah my parents were great they never went to mass but they didnt stop us kids if we wanted to go .........which we didn't

although my gran is a religious nut and when I stayed with her as a kid she had me up very early everyday for 8am mass everyday of the week I used to pretend that I was so holy so she would buy me a prayer book or a set of rosary beads in the church shop and be the blue eyed girl "saying the prayers" in my new book mhaaa ha ha ah
