Why not post it one more time for us mate? Fact is, recognised or not, its going ahead.

Most colleges never recognised RAG week. In GMIT the only days that were allocated for it were the thursday and friday of whatver week it was held on, the rest of the time normal lectures were held. And even in that case most lecturers said that if no one turned up, so be it. Its no skin off their nose if no one turns up.

Regarding the last part i've highlighted in bold: Finally you show your colours. All along from reading your posts I figured you may be a GMIT student who was just strongly defending some information they had received, now I just see someone who's totally against the idea of RAG week and quite frankly, you come across as a bit of a killjoy.

Personally, I, nor any one of my mates caused any hassle during RAG week in years past. The majority of students dont. If a few people want to cause hassle then thats their problem, they'll be arrested and they'll end up looking like fools.

Like it or not, RAG week is an important part of the college experience.

2. I did NOT accuse YOU of engaging in any 'hassle'.
3. Missing lectures due to a drink fuelled 'charity' week, when the Semester system and exams before Christmas have already lead to a reduction in teaching time, seems eminently part of the 'college experience'.
4. This week lectures are scheduled all week and will take place, regardless, even some assessments.
5. I never said events were not happening, but rather that there is NO OFFICIAL RAG week.
6. Just call it Piss head week and be done with it, sure what does it matter.
7. I have no objection to people enjoying themselves - indeed I dont go round making uninformed judgements about people's sociability.
8. I am looking forward to the virtual certainty that there will be trouble with the inevitable media exposure and bad press with SU leaders going on air bleating they are powerless to do very much.
9.Conform to the student stereotype or be damned! Isnt that your motto?

You're getting quite tetchy there! I was going to go to Galway for Rag Week, but I don't think I will now with all this bad feeling! And I was looking forward to getting drunk in Eyre Square during the day and getting arrested! Spoilsport.:D

If you have a problem with exams before Christmas, take it up with the college. Also if you have a problem with the reduction in teaching time, take it up with the Dept. of Education and maybe the Minister for Finance. People who have exams after Christmas will be happy with a week to unwind.

You're the one doing the stereotyping on this thread. Whether you want to conform to the stereotype you portray is your choice. Why not actually go and raise some money for charity, go to the gigs and events organised perhaps?

Its about time they brought in the wristband system, its been working very well in UL for years. €50 isn't bad considering it covers all the events.

Well they're doing a great job of not recognising it by allowing a thirty foot poster to be put up in the canteen? I don't even like RAG week ( hate it infact ) but I'm just wondering why there are still obvious promotions on the I.T's grounds when the college aren't even recognising it this year.

This is a nasty, vindictive and personalised attack in the form of a reply. Its going to be brought to the moderators' attention not just of this board but of boards.ie. The vicious, sarcastic and vitriolic nature of the repost is totally uncalled for, and sadly typies what seems to be your despotic attitude to debate. Un Duce, una voce.

Fortunately, it was a quiet week, and successful, but you are far from the liberal student you portray yourself to be, as you clearly cannot stomach dissent. The world would be a very boring place if we were all like you - and conformed.

Report it all you like. I debated the issue at hand, you have added nothing to this thread in any of your posts, and judging by the amount of people who agreed with me, well, take from that what you will. If you have further issue with me, take it to pm.

Also the topic of grade inflation has nothing to do with GMIT rag week.

Also, I somehow doubt next week will be equally as quiet, considering the vastly larger student population at NUIG. But again, nothing to do with GMIT ragweek.

'Debating' does not mean launching personal, vitriolic attacks simply because I do not concur with your viewpoint. It involves acknowledging differing opinions that people are entitled to have and express - though seemingly not in your view. Although I disagree with you, I didn't denigrate you.
