What injury did Macheda have that he was out so long?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,608 ✭✭✭Spud83

Rooney should not have been playing for England midweek. He was carrying something through the CC final, and then playing 80 minutes in an English friendly is crazy.

Still I bet he starts tomorrow.

Anyone else think its too late for Hargreaves for this season. I mean we have ten league games left.

Even if he plays for the reserves next week he will miss at least this weekends game, and next weeks game.

That leaves eight games. Eight games that we will be hunting the title. I just can't see him being back good enough and fit enough to make any decent contribution this season.

He isn't in the CL squad, and we have no FA Cup games. Really will be limited opportunities to give him a run.

Maybe if we have the league won or lost with one or two games to go he might get a start or two, but apart from that I can't see it.

    Owen out for the season.

he should just do everyone a favour and retire.

yeah, when he's fit, he's still a very handy player to have.

but you just can't trust him.

as much as I can't stand the fact he's at your lot, I'd have possibly still taken him to the World Cup if fit. he has a better 'striker's instinct' than any striker England have IMO. even now.

it's a pity you just can't rely on him.

1 part of me thinks it is too late and we'd be better off keeping him ok til next season.

However, I also think that if he does get his fitness up and back to a good standard of playing (big ifs imo) he would still be a usefull player in the last few games, even if only to give Fletcher a bit of a break if needed. I'd prefer a decently fit hargreaves coming on instead of Gibson, for example. With Anderson out too, we can't really afford to limit our midfield choices any more than they already are. We really only have Giggs, Scholes, Fletcher and Carrick.

I was just about to post that Rooney absolutely should be rested, not because he might get tired but because he might get injured. Somebody posted earlier that Rooney is like Lampard - that's crazy talk! He's nothing like Lampard, he's been out injured for a period nearly every season. His body clearly doesn't hold up well to the ridiculously long and intense modern season. My biggest worry for him is stress fractures or minor damage in his ligaments - the kind of thing that comes from over working the body, which is what he's doing every season.

Hopefully, if he is injured now, it's just something very minor and can be taken as the warning sign that he needs some time off to rest.

With Anderson out, we desperately need Hargreaves to get fit. I'm still annoyed he wasn't included in the CL squad, think it was a mistake.

But with ten games left, if we could play in just 5 of them, he'd make a big difference, especially, especially, against Chelsea and Liverpool, where him and Fletcher in the middle would form a potent partnership, albeit slightly defensive.

As for Valencia, I'm just not sure yet that I think he's good enough to punish top class FB's. I'd expect Cole to match him for pace to be honest. I also think he can be still kinda wasteful at times, and against average to poor teams he gets a couple of chances at a cross so its ok. I still think he needs to step up a level in terms of his going down the right crossing, and desperately needs to step up a level in terms of his cutting inside.

Rooney should be rested, Berbatov is in good enough form for him to lead an attack and get a result against Wolves.

I doubt you'll see Owen again, in fact I doubt football will see Owen again except in a studio.

In hindsight it was a mistake, but when it came down to it I just don't think the staff thought he would be back and fit enough to make contribution in the competition that could still be the case.

What ever about the Chelsea game he might be back for that, but the Liverpool game? Looking at the fixtures that would be his first start in a competitive game in how long? Far too big game to bring him back into, when I can't say anybody can be sure how he will react.

In fairness very few wingers get the better of Cole. Our own Ronaldo often struggled against him. Best game Ronaldo had against Chelsea was the Cl final, and he spent that attacking Essien in the left back position rather than facing Cole.

I think his crossing from the right is fantastic and he constantly gets himself in good positions to do so. I agree about cutting inside though, needs that to keep defenders guessing more.

It is a pity he's so injury prone but I'd be inclined to keep him on a pay as you play deal, he's scored some important goals for us this season and when fit he's a good addition to the squad.

I'm sceptical about Hargreaves latest comback rumours, I hope it's true as we could do with him in the squad.

didn't i read he's on 35k a week or something, then the rest in based on playing, scoring, assisting?

i know that's not much in modern football terms, but his medical bill surely means he can't be all that worth it?

i don't see him ever playing that regularly again.

Hhe didn't miss one training session all season and according to him its his 1st hamstring injury in 5 years but don't let the facts get in the way of your bitterness.

It's only his 2nd injury of the season, with the first only keeping him out for 1 game.

If anything it's just shítty luck.

I have no agenda regarding Owen (beyond thinking Liverpool might or might not have dodged the bullet by not signing him). I just don't see him wanting to play in a mid table team of scruffers or in another league again so I suspect he'll hang up his boots.
