Toilet attendants, how do you deal with them?

Was in a club at home in Contae Coraigh at the weekend, and they had toilet attendants there. And after the usual "how are you tonight sir?", "You having a good night yeah?" banter out of the boys, I thought to myself "what to fook do I say to these guys to tell them I'm not interested in paying €2 for a sheet of kitchen paper to dry my hands". So I turned and just said "good night lads" and walked out.
Personally, I hate going to places that have them, but when you are from the shticks, you dont really get much choice in the clubs you can go to.

How do you feel about toilet attendants and how do you deal with them???

I ignore them. Nothing to stop you drying your hands.

True story. I was in the club the other wknd. New lad in the toilets. He called in the bouncers to deal with the lads who wouldn't wash their hands. He even grabbed one by the shoulder to pull them back from the door to wash their hands. He's lucky he didn't get a smack TBH.

He called the bouncers becuase the lads wouldn't wash their hands!!
Did the bouncers actually come to the jacks and get the fellas to wash their hands?

I had a toilet guy in Sin E in Dublin come after me and put his hand on my shoulder trying to get me back in to give him money - after him doing nothing for me.

I politely but firmly told him to get lost.

    Pure cheek.

Yeh I swear! 1st bouncer laughed at him and walked back out. 2nd one had a bit of cop on and to keep the peace he said lads wash your hands and don't forget to scrub the finger nails for the girls. Gave the attendant a nod and then walked out.

That guy is a fecking ass hole!!

Bloody pain, has bee at that for a while now.
So many succumb to that shit though which makes him keep going.

Too bad the pub has the best music in Dublin on weeknights, otherwise I'd almost not go back cause of him.

While the lad in question sounds OTT, he's probably paid the management to set up there and has no doubt been allowed to form the impression that he'll pull in a certain amount of money. The fact that he's trying to get the bouncers to intervene suggests this too.

Can anybody confirm that these guys pay the management for the right to set up in their clubs?

People should complain to the management and say they're not coming back as long as there are toilet attendants there instead of kicking off with the people in the toilets.

I don't mind when the jacks is busy but i hate going in when it's early in the night and it's empty. It's like having someone in your jacks at home watching your every move. I never tip them unless i actually use something other than the paper they usually force into my hands.

I ignore them. F**king worst thing that came with the Celtic f**king Tiger.

Get the f**k out of my way and let me p**s in peace and wash my hands without feeling like I need to give some twat some money.

Do these establishments think we need this?? I hate it, really winds me up.

I think you should go easy on the Toilet attendants. Life must be pretty grim if you have to make a living this way.

wow some people are just LOOKING for people to direct their anger at! what's the problem? if you don't want to give them money, big deal, don't, you're not going to hurt their feelings. i've had nothing but short, pleasant exchanges with any i've met. if i have change i might give a euro or two out of [slightly drunken] goodwill, if i don't have change i won't.

much prefer it than getting to a nightclub bathroom, and finding out there's no loo roll a minute too late..

i really don't think there's a need to ask "how do you DEAL with them" as if they are a case of crabs... as for the example someone gave of a toilet attendant rudely asking for money -just don't give them any if you don't want to. simple as.

I hate the ones that will switch the fuse off on the hand drier to try make you use the paper towels!!! Alot of people I know believe the toilet attendant jobs should be given to students in college!

No way, the current ones are annoying enough.

The entire African continent couldn't manufacture the bleating sense of entitlement that a single student can.

It's just creating a job though when there is no job to do.

Maybe somewhere like the Beverly Hills Hotel where the place is gigantic and they give you expensive after shave and a hot towel or something but not some where like Vicar St or Copper Face fcuking Jacks ffs.

This country went and stuck it's head up it's ar*e for the past ten years.

I have some sympathy for them (well the nice ones at least) because it's a pretty shite job; can you imagine standing round a pissy toilets all night? But leaving aside that mitigating factor, they're really annoying. As OutlawPete said, it's a pointless job; a position that cannot justify itself.

We'd lose absolutely nothing if they didn't exist. Last time I checked people knew how to take paper towels from a dispenser. The little deodorants they sometimes sell are handy enough, but the clubs/pubs could could install a machine to give them out like they do with condoms, and cut out the middle man? If it they cleaned the toilets or fulfilled some other worthwhile role then I'd say fair play to them.

If the toilets tend to be a bit rowdy then send in a proper bouncer to keep an eye on things. Otherwise, leave them be. We managed for years without largely useless attendants, I'm sure we could manage once more if they were phased out.

I dont mind leaving a euro every now and then but once the flood gates are open and im pissing like a racehorse all night I cant afford to be spending a euro when spending a penny!!

A mate of mine was in the jacks once and the guy was forcing kitchen towel into his hands to dry them everytime he went to the for a piss. This was happening everytime he went to take a piss.At the end of the night he was well drunk and when the guy again forced tissue into his hand my mate said cheers, dropped his cacks, wiped his arse, dropped a euro in the ashtray and walked out smiling!!! I would not have believed he did this only for I was behind him in the jacks when it happened!!He was never bothered again when he went for a piss.

Take the furthest sink from the attendant. If it's a small place and he's right up there trying to turn the tap on for you, hand out paper etc just say no thanks and after washing shake your hands and run them through your hair - it's more hygenic anyhow. Problem sorted.

agh they're alright, if they aren't pestering you for money, they are OK.

All the ones that I have met have always been sound, if I have a euro change or something i'll give it to em, they must need it more than I do if they have to attend to the toilets in a shitty nightclub for a living.
