    Big into my aviation

    +1 (for awhile).

I used to sit for hours listening to long haul flights on HF logging their sel-cal details and databasing the info :o

I still listen on VHF, mostly Dublin airport.

    1) Learning to design websites because I felt like it.
    2) Learning German because I felt like it.
    3) Spending hours and hours perfectly tweaking various customization programs to suit me (various msstyles are used, plus litestep, rocketdock, rainmeter, samurize are all programs I'm quite familiar with). This includes going into the configs and manually editing things pixel by pixel and shade by shade, creating icons, wallpapers, fonts, etc.
    4) Being incredibly OCD/organized about how my folders are kept. For example, all films on my computer (200gb worth) are named correctly with the correct year in brackets beside it. If it's a trilogy or more, it has "Collection" in brackets beside it. If it's a TV series, it has the correct name followed by Season and then the requisite number, typed out (eg. "Three" instead of just "3"). For music (112gb worth), I have it organized by artist. If it's just one album, it's Artist - Album Title. If it's two albums, it's Artist - 2 Albums. If it's 3 or more, it's Artist - Various Albums. If it's a discography, it's Artist - Discography. If it's a few various singles, it's Artist - Various Tracks. Every single folder has to be that way, or I go mad.
    5) Love videogames. A lot. Like, a lot a lot. Like, playing competitively in leagues a lot.
    6) I have a screenname for every messenger I possibly can, tied through Digsby. Just in case.
    7) I know my way well enough around computers to fix most things.
    8) I read anything I can get my hands on; I really don't understand people who won't read.

Can't think of anything else right now, but there's got to be loads more.

    Fcukin nerd :p

I've been working out anagrams of London Underground stations. E.g. Tower Hill is White Roll; Earl's Court is Solar Truce, Mile End is Idle Men, etc. And Walthamstow Central is Crew Want Tall Thomas!

I do nerd stuff like counting the number of letters in a word as people are speaking. It's easier than listening to them. But you're not really a nerd unless you know who Alan Moore is.

I did not realise other people did that. Do you also have a particular hatred for 11 letter words? Other primes I can deal with, but just can't abide 11-letter words.

I have a nerdy obsession with film and can rhyme off 1000's of trivial movie facts..........thing is the oppertunity never comes up in conversation :( Exactly 500gb of perfectly named (with year of release) movies & TV shows, I even bought a 2nd external hdd purely to copy my precious folders :o

Everyday, like clockwork, the very 1st thing I do when I get on the internet is aintitcool.com, empireonline.com, totalfilm.com and then boards.ie>Films forum........in exactly that order.

I'm always interested in anything space-related, like obscure things NASA has figured out about like why a certain planet is a darker shade of brown than another..................I usually keep that shìt to myself.

I will read absolutley anything, even women magazines! For years I couldn't just hop into bed and go to sleep unless I had a movie or video game magazine to read...........even if I read the damn thing a million times (The video game magazines used to be from the early 90's :D )!!

My last job being the only in-house IT technician was the only job I've ever really loved..............I'd actually look forward to go into work!! I'm now the IT "nerd" everyone refers me too when they (or their friend) has an IT problem. I charge in beer & fags.

I have such a horrbile urge to hold back when somebody has said something wrong.............."Must........not.............correct.........them!!!!"

Have zero interest in football, I don't hate it and do follow our boys in green but ultimately I don't give a flying fùck about it! People think you're a bit "limp-wristed" if you don't and I hate it when Taxi drivers talk to me about football (I just agree with them on football just to get the cheaper taxi rate :pac:)

Heh, heh, yea done that shìt too. Never painted him though, he's sitting in a filing cabinet along with the 3D glasses in the parents house somewhere!

I'm more interested in older games like Arcade, SNES, Mega Drive, etc (I have just under 10,000 games) than I am newer ones, though there are a few exceptions - Went sick in the head for Oblivion......

.....wow, how the hell did I ever pull women!?! :pac:

Question: How does working on a PC consider you a nerd? Maybe 10 yrs ago. But nowaday's every1 has a PC. My compulsion was after shooting every weekend. I'd strip my 3 guns down to the springs and piles the bits in to 1 pile. Then completey clean every part. And then put the 3 of them back together.

Oh it definitely still makes you a nerd. My housemate and I fix people's computers and the majority of people can't figure out how to use anything other than Internet Explorer and have actually asked us to link their ipods with itunes. These are people my age (22), these aren't geezers, these are people who should've done at least one computer class in public school in their lifetimes.

Unfortunately just owning a PC doesn't make anyone an expert, not by a longshot.. if it did, we'd be out of business. Lots of easy money to be made in the meantime though!

Being able to fix computers may not make you as much of a nerd as a few years ago but it still does. The amount of people out there that own computers and don't know how to use them properly let alone fix them is mad.

Me. I built the LHC in my spare time.

I have a similar problem except mine's with car registrations. When I'm in the car, not driving obviously, I count up the numbers on the registration plates on the car in front/around me and add/subtract/divide/multiply the numbers until I get them to a number which is divisible by nine... :o

I also do this! Not all the time mind as I've drifted off during conversations which my friends dont like! I usually take a sentence and see if it can be divided into 3's and get upset if it doesnt! :o

Another OCD nerdy thing is Car registration plates,I'll try and make year and Reg number the same in my head so for example 07 D 2113 is easy enough as both sides add up.

I used to collect football figures and have about 100 in the attic(which are worth a few €'s now :) ) .I'm obsessed with all things football including stats and useless trivia and could spend hours looking at players careers in-depth.

    I think thats it!

I do this as well. Even trying to justify a word like "don't" to "do not" if you need to an extra letter so you can devide the sentence by 3. It actually annoyed me so much when I was about 14/15 I actively tried to quit. Now I have it down to a healthy once in a while habit and not every single thing I see or read.

The fact that i've been doing it well over 10 years is crazy, at least i'm not the only nut job.
