Nerd hobbies & pasttimes..

What nerd hobbies or pasttimes have you had, or are currently hooked on.

    For me;

I was crazy into model building (1/35 scale), won some competitions and had some photos published in Military Modelling (magazine). Don't do it any more.

Another was HAM radio, being competitive by nature I won some comps there too, silly stuff like working over 100 countries on Morse Code on one band in one month.

I'm sure other nerdy stuff from my past will come back to me later.

Anyone else here a reformed nerd or in a treatment programme hoping for a cure?. :pac:

When you say "used to have" is "past times" a deliberate mistake?!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I used to be into CB radio.

How cool was that, all you needed was a box the size of a dvd player, a mic and a three foot long antenna and you could talk to random strangers anywhere within three miles.

    Boards.

I used to build model airplanes and paint them also, as well as paint the likes of Warhammer figures and that sort of thing.

I guess refusing to read anything that doesn't invole some kind of

"He was the bastard son of a prince together with his friend a magician of untapped power they are on a quest to save the realm from the evil sorcerer and the might army of were-beasts."

type synopsis could be considered quite nerdy.

I do nerd stuff like counting the number of letters in a word as people are speaking. It's easier than listening to them. But you're not really a nerd unless you know who Alan Moore is.

Used to like tinkering with PCs, lost interest years ago, but it qualifies as nerdy. Used to make Airfix models aswell, but when I was much younger, they all turned into lumps of glue covered plastic that only partially resembled the picture on the box. I tried making one again a few years ago and did quite a good job of it compared to my childhood efforts, but that was a one off.

Don't know who he is and seeing as his name is an anagram of "anal romeo", don't particularly want to know either.

    Pighead's nerd hobby is anagrams.

Never really had one. Used to buy video game magazines every week and read cover to cover.

Escalated this to PC magazines. Lived in the sticks. This changed when I started using the internet as can get any information from there.

Still buy an odd one though.

Just like your username, you're yellow and toughish on the outside but when that toughish outside is peeled away you are nothing more than a soft mushy penis shaped mess.

Pighead's dealt with your type before bananaman. You haven't phased him in the slightest in this frank exchange we've had this morning. These feathers aren't for rustling.

I love poring over maps of any kind: preferably urban ones like street maps or tube/subway maps, but also ordinance survey and atlases.

I used to draw my own street-maps of my estate when I was a kid. :o

Ah, I see (just the one "t" by the way - sorry to be anal!) Another of my pastimes....

EDIT - As in correcting grammar... nothing anal... Pighead, you stay out of this.

    Boards.

Big into my aviation, military games (Operation Flashpoint FTW), and after reading up on the Aubrey-Maturin series, now into age-of-sail history. Love seeing the Georgian buildings in Dublin city.

I recently had half a mind to look into that board-game stuff you see in model shops (the stuff they do in Minature Gaming forum, actually, and it'd be Napoleonic war stuff), but after making a cack of befriending a gamer on Facebook, I thought better of it. I have such a way with women. :o:D

You can do whatever you want to do with feathers! You can rustle them, tar them, paint them, swallow them, eat them, throw them or wear them. To suggest that ruffling is the only thing you can do to them means that either you are extremely naive or extremely intelligent. Pighead's going with the second one. It's a fair point.

Whan I was a kid it was comics. 2000AD usually. Still have most of the old ones.

And fantasy books (before the internet was invented), great way to waste time.

Computers, my laptop is so perfectly setup it is quite sad. I downloaded a program last week to check my updates and weaknesses and it told me there were none and "go outside and get a life"

World of Warcraft ... sad but true. Only one character though so not too bad. FOR THE HORDE !!!

    1) Learning to design websites because I felt like it.
    2) Learning German because I felt like it.
    3) Spending hours and hours perfectly tweaking various customization programs to suit me (various msstyles are used, plus litestep, rocketdock, rainmeter, samurize are all programs I'm quite familiar with). This includes going into the configs and manually editing things pixel by pixel and shade by shade, creating icons, wallpapers, fonts, etc.
    4) Being incredibly OCD/organized about how my folders are kept. For example, all films on my computer (200gb worth) are named correctly with the correct year in brackets beside it. If it's a trilogy or more, it has "Collection" in brackets beside it. If it's a TV series, it has the correct name followed by Season and then the requisite number, typed out (eg. "Three" instead of just "3"). For music (112gb worth), I have it organized by artist. If it's just one album, it's Artist - Album Title. If it's two albums, it's Artist - 2 Albums. If it's 3 or more, it's Artist - Various Albums. If it's a discography, it's Artist - Discography. If it's a few various singles, it's Artist - Various Tracks. Every single folder has to be that way, or I go mad.
    5) Love videogames. A lot. Like, a lot a lot. Like, playing competitively in leagues a lot.
    6) I have a screenname for every messenger I possibly can, tied through Digsby. Just in case.
    7) I know my way well enough around computers to fix most things.
    8) I read anything I can get my hands on; I really don't understand people who won't read.

Can't think of anything else right now, but there's got to be loads more.
