I know this will come across as spiteful and immature but, with regards my thread of paired choices being locked[I can see the reason,I said I was a bit hesitant about starting it]

But,why is bobalicious' music thread still open if that's the case?[nothing personal bob] I'm trying to set them on a double standard or even get my one redeemed, just that it has as little a point as my one had[at the very least we learned little bits of info about other posters] whereas we already have a thread for people's music taste and interesting videos people find.

the difference between the threads is much of a muchness IMO.

My reason for closing it? If people want to play tCN-style game-threads, they should expect tCN-style modding. You put 3 rules in your OP. One of them was that the game was to continue until somebody said it should be locked. A poster called for it to be locked, so I made it happen. Nothing malicious or spiteful at all :)

Can we have tCN modding? That'd be funneh.

It would also mean we'd get a voluntary ban thread. And Sarky.

Surely if you want a tCN-style thread they should go to tCN?

Same logic could very easily be applied to our Creative Arts thread, our cooking/recipes thread, our sports thread, etc. I know we tend to deal with stuff on a case by case basis, rather than a one-size-fits-all rule for most threads, but that seems to work well for this community. One of the main reasons it took so long for this forum to be created in the first place, it was argued, was because so many of the topics could easily be catered for elsewhere. I think we've proven that to be a weak argument in the past 15 months.

Yeah these threads are very spammy. That's what tCN is there for.

There's only two. They won't last forever....

Don't let Sarky hear you saying that!
They like to think of themselves as dadaist artists on that forum.
Not spammers. Oh no. No way.

We have one of these? Since when? Off I go to search...

Yes, but with the other threads that could be put in other places, (Taking the creative arts thread as an example), it's set apart from anything in the arts and crafts forum because it's a group of young'uns who are showing their creativity in a community for young people. The same can be applied to the other topics on discussion here. But the thing about those two threads is that they don't really contribute anything. In both of them it's just blind posting without any class of a discussion.

    Let's not ban flirting.

The OT thread is in ruins because of flirting. Thanks who ever started and/or promoted it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,893 ✭✭✭Davidius

But if we banned flirting half the people here would have nothing else to talk about.

It's gone a bit far though. I've just stopped reading the thread. But I suppose, if it's all being directed in there it's better than it filling up all the other threads, so it is possible to just ignore it.

The Den thread is in tatters after the great flirt of 2010. Furniture thrown everywhere, smashed glass ornmaments, TWO bulbs blown outta the chandelier, the LCD TV mysteriously not working, and a funny smell of a mix of booze and vomit that just won't go away.

To be fair you have no-one to blame but yourself for that.

It was a tummy bug and just the dizzying effects of too much 7up, okay?

So, it has been a while since this has been used!

Anyway, I've been thinking about this for a good while, but I was thinking about the "know your posters" thread and the rule about discussions in the thread. To be honest, I think it disrupts the flow of the thread a bit too much. Definitely well over half the posts are just comments on the pictures, which I don't really agree with. I'd see the point of the thread more being about the actual pictures.

So I'd maybe suggest having a separate thread for the comments? In fairness, there are a bomb of threads there that are used at least semi-regularly, so it wouldn't be an issue with regards clogging up the forum.

    Thoughts?

Also, this isn't specifically because of the comments a little earlier, they just reminded me that I wanted to say this.

I'd agree that the thread is fairly off-topic at times as is (and I'm not entirely without blame), but I think a separate thread would be more hassle than good, if it was discussion of pictures there'd end up being cross-quoting and it'd be really hard to follow. Particularly if/when the threads end up out of sync and without constant quoting no-one knows what's being referred to.

If there is discussion I think it'd have to be on thread to make sense.

Yeah, I can see your point, and that'd be the one thing I'd have against a second thread, but from my own experience of that system is that it works.

It's one of the less active threads here that still attracts regular posts, if you know what I mean. If someone is commenting on a photo, then you're generally going to know what they're commenting on because the volume of new posts is low. Also probably by who the poster is addresing.

Argh, it's hard to express what I mean exactly. But basically I think it'd work here based on what I've seen elsewhere!

I think I know what you're talking about. It might allow me to move posts from the pictures thread to the new one instead of deleting them altogether.

Let me think about it for a few days. I need to get used to a few new issues with modding the Midwest forum before I can commit to extra care-taking!
