Heard this advertised on the radio, anyone use it? Seems to suggest you put your cars details in and what you are looking for and dealers can make you offers.

Sounds interesting but I'd be surprised if many dealers would be prepared to offer values sight-unseen.

would they not just give an idicative quote, reserving the right to withdraw it on inspection. If you have a clean car an inspection shoudln't matter.

Because (from experience) if you price someone's car over the phone you open a can of worms.

    Everyone's car is mint condition

If you price for mint and it has a scuff on it, they'll say "it's just a scratch, will you not stand over your pricing".

If you price over the phone and it's not what they want to hear, you'll just get "is that the best you can do?" and you'll never hear from them again.

If you give a price over the phone and you're the highest, they'll expect you to stand over it and to improve on it even though you've the best price.

If you give yourself leeway and say "it's worth €6-8k depending on condition", the only figure they'll hear is €8k and they'll be annoyed if you don't offer it to them.

Customers have selective hearing a lot of the time.

I see what you are saying - but I would imagine you would get a written quote with loads of disclaimers. I am not sure if you would also have to put up pictures.

I heard the ad on the radio just before, but I can't see anything on CBG.ie relating to it

you need to go into the wanted link and it asks you if you have a trade in?

you need to go into the wanted link and it asks you if you have a trade in?

So it's not for dealers then.

I looked in the wanted section - it's trade in's / swaps for private individuals.

If you look at the offers from dealers there is a disclaimer saying 'Please note, any trade in value will obviously be subject to physical inspection at time of sale'.

By the looks of the activity there's a few cars being sold this way, both private: http://www.cbg.ie/WantedAds/WantedVehicleDetails.aspx?ID=1865 and dealers: http://www.cbg.ie/WantedAds/WantedVehicleDetails.aspx?ID=2140

If you can get a sale out of it it's well worth a look! Better than spending half the day on boards and sitting there waiting for someone to walk through the door!

havent gone any further, would only consider it for trading in not for a swap. Assume can you specify new only or dealer only?

Could be a good idea if dealers can search the wanted ads when they get a car in and see who might be interested.

I think its a good idea, even just for private sellers - you never know who is looking for a car like yours. That ST you linked to is my car. Funnily enough I didn't put a wanted ad up - had a free ad on CBG, they are obvioulsy scanning through text & putting some of them up.

Long & short of it, that deal didn't work for me, the guy was looking for a bog standard Focus & didn't realise mine was an ST!

the chances of getting a match amongst private sellers IMO is low, I would see this more as a tool for dealers to quote.

from the "Do you have a trade in?" page
When you put the car you are looking for online it will improve your chances of getting a deal done. Sellers will be able to submit quotes online for the car you are looking for and give you a trade in price for the one you are selling. It's easy and it's FREE

Does this open the thing up to massive amounts of spam though?

You list your car for sale and all of a sudden every dealer in the country automatically messages you with "I want your car for my stock - I have a customer for it already. Can't really discuss pricing here, can you bring it in?" just trying to grab any lead they can?

would me my concern also, was wondering if anyone had used it yet to see how they get on. Don't fancy being a guinea pig for cbg :D .

I would say it could if it picks up! Maybe at that stage it would be best to notify customers with matching cars only as opposed to a free for all!
