I have in the past seen some 2007 Octavias MK1 and thought it strange considering the MK2 is out since 2005, however I saw a 2010 one this week. Isn't that a bit strange??

I hope they got it very very cheap!

Maybe not the most hightech out there but still a very sound car

Amazingly they are still in production but theyre more geared towards the budget market where they are a still a far superior car to some stuff available in those markets(Dacia's and Autovaz and the like). Couldnt possibly recommend one in this country though, i hope they got it very cheap too although it should be an economical and no nonsense car for them for years to come. Other than design, it wouldnt be far behind most in the small family car class technically

    It's called the Octavia Tour

Anyone got an opinion on the 2010 Octavia?

Saw one on the road last week and it looked great. Charcoal grey colour. Don't know anything else, it passed me by in the traffic. Me in my 5 year old Passat, was a bit envious. But am happy with my lot for now till I can afford something else.

Its the motors forum on boards, EVERYONE has an opinion o the Octavia :D, its probably one of the most talked about models here, just do a quick search and you'll find plenty! :)

The latest Octavia is just about the ugliest car out there at the minute. THe 05 model was much better. The new front lights have been changed for the sake of change and its a poor effort.

The 2010 Octavia is just a facelift of the Octavia sold since 2004 which looked incredibaly similar looking to the original Octavia launched back in 1996. As facelift models go Skodas are as conservative as you get except maybe for Porsche. :)

Try getting 4 bales of hay into the boot of a Porsche though

That's it. For taxi drivers only.

I'd say a Cayenne commercial might manage it.

We have 3 08 and 1 09 Octavia Tour Combi's (Estates) on the road. At the time the cost was so much lower than anything else of a comparable size.

They are used by technicians who cover big mileage and need to carry a lot of bulky equipment. Levels of interior comfort are fairly good, they've got the workhorse 1.9Tdi engine and haven't give much trouble.

When they come back they don't owe much money either so everyones a winner.

If you need something big, reliable and cheap, that's going to be run in to the ground, I don't see much better value for money.

The Tour model is no longer listed in my pricing guide, or on Carzone, so it might no longer be advertised for sale in Ireland.

Saw a 10 reg Combi myself.

I wonder how much these can be bought for?

They still had the 2009 pricing guides for both the tour and Combi tour on the website last week,

    and New Octavia@

if you look at it rationally, the new model isn't any safer than the old one so if you're buying one for a rep who doesn't need the better rear seat space the new one has then they make a lot of sense

Although they got more or less the same points in the EuroNCAP, the newer Octavia has side airbags, ESP and EBD (and some other random acronyms), front seatbelt load limiters and a centre rear 3-point seatbelt (not sure if the Tour has one too but the brochure does not mention it).

I drive a mk2 Octy Combi and AFAIK there's only a couple of G's between mk1 and mk2, mk1 is still a good car but seriously old design, new one is infinitely better car and worth the couple of G's premium.

    Isn't the Mk2 a 5 star EuroNCAP car though?

Nope, it was 4 star in 2004, where the Mk5 golf was 5 star. I think this was due to the inclusion of curtain airbags as standard on the VW but not on the skoda though, structurally, neither would be stronger

Nope, the MK2 is 4 star and it doesn't have side airbags as standard.

I think the MK1 got side bags and a rear 3 point belt on the 00 facelift.

In this country, the Mk1 only ever had twin front airbags, the Mk2 when launched had 4 minimum

Have an 03 Ambiente TDI here with side bags, probably optional

Must have been, the Elegance may have had them but the 90bhp TDi Ambiente definitely didnt, Is it the 110bhp though, that might've had, most likely options though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,328 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

    Think it's a 110 alright

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,541 ✭✭✭Zonda999

    That probably explains it :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,328 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

    POWWWWERRR!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,541 ✭✭✭Zonda999

Well 110bhp in a TDi is more than most TDi's in this country so its probably capable of time travel, those insane speeds are why there are extra airbags..

At the start of the year, i was in South Dublin Auto's with a friend of mine who was picking up his taxi, as SDA do alot of fit-outs for taxis.

Was in the waiting room having a yap to another driver and he mentioned that the 10D Octy was his that i was looking at, Chap said he paid €14K with scrappage and discounts.

He had a Merc 200E that he scrapped for it and it has coverd 487K miles when he scrapped it. Sad.

Its about time Taxi drivers got off their holes and started driving decent modern cars instead of "serving" the public with decades old Carinas/Mercs etc. Octavia should be made the standard taxi (all in Sahara Beige):D
