    I have to say, I hate when people give some homeless guy food or a drink and then immediately have to tell everyone how great they are on facebook/twitter/boards.

    There are people who actually make a difference in a lasting way to poor people's lives and don't spend their time bragging about how great they are, congratulations on coming across like some smelly art student loving the smell of your own farts.

    I tried to run away but my mammy told me that I wasn't allowed to cross the road. :(

    I'm sure it's something to do with alcohol. My friends and I used to do this a lot, we'd come out of some nightclub on Harcourt Street and inevitably seem to find a homeless person/ gypsy whose life story we would listen to intently, admonishing anybody who dared make a joke. Often we would give them food, sometimes money, my best friend even once offered to allow one of them sleep in the basement of her house.

    It is true, if you're homeless and someone hands you a cheeseburger at 3am you don't care what their motives are, youre just glad for the burger.

    But, inevitably, despite our 'concern' we always took taxis home back to our comfortable warm beds in the suburbs and slept very soundly and woke up the next morning and forgot all about them. Drunken charity is the least honourable and most self serving of them all.
