Kinnitty Castle - Wedding Summer 2010
    Hi all,

I will be getting married in Kinnitty Castle this summer. I wanted to know if anybody had any experience of Kinnitty Castle for weddings as of late. We fell in love with the venue as soon as we saw it. I know that the management has changed hands since it went into receivership. So has the standards dropped/improved etc?

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Cheers,

    M

Sadly I can not report good news. Yes you are correct the Castle has been in receivership for almost two years. It is being run under the direction of a receiver and its a mess to be honest. I was quite astonished to learn they had a wedding fare there last week given they can not offer any guarantee's to bridal couples. A large number of weddings were canceled as a result of the receivership previously and the place has been run on a shoe string since, only opening at weekends and i can say from experience with dreadful standards.

I can also tell you i attended a wedding there last Summer, it was in fact the last wedding of the year (and very very local). The guests who would stayed over had an appalling time, no heat, water or service to mention, in fact there was no cold running water over the entire weekend and staff told my party the management even had to bring in bottled water an hour before the meal started. The meal was adequate but with the prices charged for both accommodation and food, i would have expected a lot more.I can not fathom how its current management can offer any guarantees to Bridal couples on what is the most important day of their lives. The Castle also recently advertised for new staff, Head Chef, Duty managers etc but its doubtful anyone will apply given the recent history of the place and the fact it is still in receivership. I believe they are still trying to sell the place and doubt they will succeed in the current climate, lets say they did? are the new owners going to stick to commitments made to bridal couples. The entire place needs a major renovation also and all though they state on their website this is happening, i live locally and see nothing happening.

I am sorry to bare this bad news but i would run a mile from the place especially for such an important occasion. By the way, the bedrooms have no TV or Telephone (A minor point but if your three stories up and an emergency occurs, where do turn too?)

Visit this place unannounced, say Mon - Thursday? you will soon see what i mean.

Is maith an scáthán súil charad.
