Petrol or diesel? Wouldn't touch the 2l TDI tbh, I know the 1.9 is old school but it is reliable. The DSGs have about a 6% failure rate.

That model and year seems to be troublesome.

Quite a few threads on here concerning them. I don't think it's the engine or gearbox. Fancy handbrake and other issues keep cropping up. Build quality seems average at best.

R.O.R. has written on this subject a bit.

Im was thinking of getting one auto 2.0 Passat :-(
Ive a sus in the UK. I really thought the VW Passats were bullet proof.
    Obviously not.
$ wise I could afford the trade in to an 05-06 Automatic 2.0 but no point if I have to keep getting it repaired. 6% failure is that high when compared to other makes/models?

I currently have a 1.9 tdi Audi A4 2002. She is really nice, but I need an automatic (Ive a bad left ankle)

    What would you recomend?

Family car (to fit one new arrival in the next few days and perhaps one or two more in the future)
    Diesel
    Automatic

Should I just go the extra few $ and get an audi automatic? (non multitronic)
We are trying to keep what little of a deposit we have for a house in the future cant blow too much of it on a car. Would like to get a new car, but a car is not an investment. My ankle hurts from the heavy clutch at the mo.
