me ma is an average cook, but the thing with her dinners is, she only buys the best meat, so it's always divine.

my dad is a brilliant cook, can make up a feast out of anything, although he has been told to put down the spices a few times.

Yeah, everyone's heard this expression but is it actually true?

Is your mother a good cook?

My mother must be the worst cook in the world... Every type of meat or fish horribly overcooked. Veg overcooked. Tinned beans or peas with every meal whether it goes or not....

Lol, i remember one time i was cooking a piece of salmon and she says that it will be undercooked because i only had it in the pan for a few minutes. I said that's the way i like it. She said that i'd get food poisoning..... i opened the fridge and pointed to the pack of sliced smoked salmon and said "how come you don't get food poisoning from eating that so?" Apparently there was some difference between the two:rolleyes:

Your right about yore ma she is a crap cook. Her breakfast is woeful :D

Yeah she is a good cook, but she has a tendency to turn a blind eye to the fact that I haven't eaten meat for quite a while. As soon as I get in the door shes trying to get me to eat chicken casserole or spag bol.

    Crazy ole coot.

i tried goooogling it..but a raw salmon fillet has to be much worse than a smoked fillet. Anyone?

My ma was a terrible cook. The whole family too tbh and I had been brought up on a diet of terribly prepared food. Everything either overcooked or stewed. For example, I went to a restaurant in my early 20s and ordered a steak. My overriding thought on leaving the place was "oh, so THAT's what a steak is meant to taste like!".

I was in a hotel once in killarney and I ordered salmon sandwiches and I had the option of either raw or smoked. I got one of each. The raw salmon was surprisingly tasty and breaks apart quite nicely as if it's been grilled to perfection - but cold. It has a slightly salty taste but was delicious all the same :). As for the smoked. It was rancid and I didn't finish it. I didn't like it at all.

Wouldn't think it mattered tbh since it can be eaten raw safely anyway.

Lol, i live in killarney! Anyway i'd far prefer raw over smoked salmon. - In actual fact, by smoking something, especially something as delicate as fish you are essentially cooking it. Hate smoked salmon though.

My mum is a pretty ace cook - I'm well into the old cooking myself and learned some great stuff from her.

    weird one for me!
my mam is an amazing cook(when she wants to be)
one day she would make a gorgeous dinner put in the best effort ever then the next she would throw some horrible ****e together and try pass it off as "dinner" although il be honest my granny was possibly the best cook ever!
all my memories of her involve me eating in her house! id pop around for a visit without her knowing and somehow she would have something already cooking just for me! they've both pasted down there skills to me and im a pretty good cook well for things i like anyway:o steaks stir-frys currys roasts pastas and a few pastries and im only 17 hoping to become a chef one day:rolleyes: ive just made myself really hungry now thanks Boards:mad:

My mam's cooking wasn't neccesarily bad, but most of the time our dinners were pretty plain, I rarely found myself eating till i was full.

The worst thing though, is that she's like in the bottom 5% of the population when it comes to attitudes towards food hygeine, and I'm somewhat obsessive about it (I'm not some sort of clean-freak nutjob, It's just when it involves stuff that's going into my mouth that i make a big deal).
Anyway, I can guarantee that she'll always manage to do something disgusting when preparing the dinner (if something fell on the floor she'd throw it back in if no-one was looking (she thinks it's a sin to waste food) :().

So yeah, I haven't been eating them since starting college :P.
