Yeah, everyone's heard this expression but is it actually true?

Is your mother a good cook?

My mother must be the worst cook in the world... Every type of meat or fish horribly overcooked. Veg overcooked. Tinned beans or peas with every meal whether it goes or not....

Lol, i remember one time i was cooking a piece of salmon and she says that it will be undercooked because i only had it in the pan for a few minutes. I said that's the way i like it. She said that i'd get food poisoning..... i opened the fridge and pointed to the pack of sliced smoked salmon and said "how come you don't get food poisoning from eating that so?" Apparently there was some difference between the two:rolleyes:

Yup my Mam was a cook and a damn good one at that. My ex's mother on the other hand. Burnt even veg, how the hell do you burn veg?

My mum's an amazing cook! Stews, lasagna, pies, roasts, curries - you name it! And, she didn't learn it from Jamie or Nigella or even Darina - she got her cooking skills from her own mum, an equally excellent cook. Sadly, I'm the generation that's breaking the tradition. I can follow a recipe, but I don't have my mum's flair.

My ma is a deadly cook.. She has always been brilliant at cooking and baking. She makes a mean lasagne and her tea brack is the best around! I've never known anyone who's mammy can't cook. I thought it was supposed to come with the territory!

I wanted to ask my missus her view on this sexist question....... But she was too busy doing the cooking.

Oh and she makes mean pancakes too-Pancake Tuesday in our house is a huge event!

Yep, mammy's a great cook indeed... cannot beat her home cooking, especially on the 'oul sunday. Although, to be fair to him, my dad's a super cook as well.

Haha odd. My nana was from Finglas & she was an awesome cook, so she always had people over for dinner!
My own mam, is also an excellent cook. Even basic food, just better cos it's made by her!

I cannot cook very well... But I shall learn! :D

I think I'm pretty good at cooking, in Home ec anyway, except I'm really clumsy..... I broke a plate during my cookery practical in Junior Cert!:o

My mothers cooking would be crap now, she's been dead for two years, but yes, in life her cooking was superb. I've never been able cook my the same dishes she did, and get it to taste the same. Why is that!?

Mammys cooking is amazing. So is the Mammy in law!

I can cook basic things... spag bol, lasagne... steak etc. My mam makes amazing chicken wings marinaded in brown sugar and soy sauce they are the yummiest everrr

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,399 ✭✭✭Bonito

Best cooks I know are me and my grandad

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,398 ✭✭✭whatdoicare

My mam was pretty hit and miss with the cooking- she cooks a fab turkey at x-mas but hands out steak that you could fix yr shoe with- fabulous spag bolognaise but a really nasty lasagne with a rubbery top and watery base. She boils all veg to death and then george foreman grills beautiful burgers! Makes no sense but there you go, maybe she learned some stuff off her mam and just chanced the rest?
(she also makes nummy choccy cake.......and god awful scones!)
