The sound on my netbook isn't working on Mint since I installed it but it will work with the headphones in. I was thinking it was some kind of driver issue? Any ideas?

Are there separate sliders for Front and Headphone in your mixer? If there are, is Front unmuted and turned up?

Forgive the ignorance but what do you mean by a mixer? In the sound settings I have the volume up all the way but I'm not sure if there are seperate sliders seeing as I don't know what a slider is

Open up volume control from the mint menu.

Could just be the jack that 'thinks' there's something plugged in? Wiggle it a (small) bit.
