Congrats and good luck to the new mods of AH.

We will have a good few months to select which of the new mods shall have the pleasure of following Terry and dr.bollocko in a certain photo shoot...

    This tradition cannot die.

Welcome new mods! Best of luck with it! :)

Someone say something nice about Terry being an exAH or great mod so he can stop looking for it.

But he was a good mod and I don't think he was looking for anything.... Unless... PM me Terry for a good time. ;)

Can't say I recognise any of them but I hope we have time to get to know them before they run away screaming or just find a nice corner to rock back in forth in.

I don't know why but when ever new mods are added to a forum they always seem to be posters i've never seen before.

/Tips hat to new mods respectfully
Tbh URL (or you for that matter) don't deserve the trouble moderating AH would bring.

Actually, there seems to be a high turn around of AH mods. Maybe a new way of thinking is the way forward here. And yes, I've taken into account that AH is no doubt stressful to keep on top of.

But when you say they don't deserve the trouble, both of the users you mention put in quite a lot of time on this particular board, and have a good idea of what kind of shit comes up as a result. There were two requests to vote from the 'public', why if nobody was appointed? I'm not being trollish, I've been a member a while now, and its just something I genuinely do not understand.

Take it to feedback? No thanks, public opinion doesn't seem matter really now, does it? Rhetorical question.

I almost* hate myself for saying this, but a mod does not have to be active in a forum in order to moderate it.

Things like personal abuse are by the book and simple to judge.

I've met The Master. Dude has a sense of humour.
Magnus will be known to many of you as "Biko". Say goodbye to Dublin based threads. :)
Super Rush posts in PW, so he gets my stamp of approval.

*I'm too awesome to ever hate myself.

Yes, yes, yes, we are aware of the procedure for armed robbery... Just pointing out the lack fo famiiarity. I almost* hate myself for saying this but I KNOW you don't have to use a forum to moderate it. I never said you did. I trust your judgement in appointing said mods.

That said, I do know Biko, wasn't aware of the name change (not a crime)
    What's PW? Pro Wrestling?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Yeah i know, I mean they clearly picked Frada from his notoriously lengthy soppy posts in Parenting, Sharpshooter for her business acumen when constantly posting in State Benefits.....and how anyone knew The Zohan from his Eyeglasses & Contact Lenses & Eyecare days i'll never know....

DO take it to feedback if you have a genuine gripe, there's no point in just fucking a couple of your toys out of the pram here where no one will notice..

OK I'm starting a book on the first helpdesk thread. PM me. 10 bucks in. I'm going next wednesday.
What? Talk about surprises. New mods mean changes. I don't like change. Have seen many a post by magnus though. Think I've thanked a few of them.. As for the others, they've to win me over but I welcome them. Rent can be made payable on the 1st of each month. This month is free. If any of you are wondering why I'm showing no signs of emotion it's because I have had botox internetjections. You'll just have to take my word for it.

    PM sent.

Magnus is a good mod, if wasn't for him, there'd have been all out war in the Galway Co. forum!

That'd be the fastest feedback thread on new mods ever i'd imagine. literally a few hours in. They don't even have After Hours under their name yet..

But seriously i wouldn't mind an explanation as to why public opinion/vote was sought then ignored completely? All of those put forward to be mods would have been excellent candidates IMO as opposed to with all due respect posters who most don't recognize from posting here.

I welcome the new mods but I must agree. What happens with a mod who doesn't know a regular poster and they step slightly outta line and get a ban? Whereas if it's someone that regularly deals with the usual posters they can look at the situation and say ok, that's not like him/her I'll dish out a warning to calm things then investigate as to why it happened. The new mods will just have to grit and bear it 'til they get to know everyone :D

Well I Mod on two forum, they're not busy and mostly used by level headed and mature people and still it I let it they'd both cause me a little stress.

I've never made any secret of the fact that Mod'ing AH would be the biggest, royal pain in the hole ever, even if I was considered for the position I'd never take it on.

Few are cut out for it, and at the risk of offending past Mods but no one in the past have (IMO) come close to the standards set recently by Dr.B, Frada & Zohan. They made up a team which from the outset gave the impression of three guys working 'hand in glove' with each other and they all had qualities which most here admired and could identify with.

Best of luck to the new guys.

And this isn't remotely a dig at the new mods, who all seem like perfectly solid citizens, so don't take it that way. If they were appointed without that poll being set up, then no biggie.

That's not remotely what she did. And, I hope she doesn't mind me speaking for her but I'm sure Abz knows how inadvisable it is to start a Feedback thread.

The public vote thing was just a bit of fun, it was never seriously going to be considered. No offence intended guys but we can't rely on votes to choose a new mod. We've never done it in the past and I can't see us ever doing it in the future. We like user feedback and encourage it but when it comes to selecting mods it's one area where we have to put on our sensible hat. Unfortunately public votes are too open to abuse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,626 ✭✭✭✭My name is URL

Well done to the new mods, Super Rush is a good poster and will make a good mod here too. I met The Master at the last AH beers, he's a nice guy. The only thing I know about Magnus is that he reports a lot of sigs =/

As for the whole fiasco over the poll, well make of it what you will.. but it would have been nice to have whatever Admin it is that decided that I wasn't up to scratch PM me with the reason instead of me having to ask.. especially when I was basically told that it was going to be me prior to that.

I'm not throwing my toys outta the pram either, I just think that as someone who contributes a lot to AH, that I at least deserved a valid reason for why the decision was made.

Does this thread really have to be sullied by speculation as to why URL/fridgmagnet/mugabe/nickgriffin4eva wasn't given a modship? It's a congratulations thread for the three new mods and look at the pressure you're already putting them under. They mightn't have been "elected" (who remembers voting me in by the way? No one? Come on, anybody?) but they were suggested by current and former AH mods because we thought they were the most suitable for the job in hand.

What I'm trying to say is, there's a time (probably tomorrow or later tonight) and a place (here) for giving out about crappy polls or whatever. In the meantime, just let the new mods have their moment. It's pretty much the moment everything starts going downhill anyway. :)

Off topic and excuse my ignorance but why would it be inadvisable :o PM me rather than stray the thread.
