    Dragons Revenge,

Firstly on behalf of all the idiots that replied to your post with their oh so witty and funny remarks like 'have a poo' etc I am truly sorry.

Guys what kind of a welcome is this? I just hope that when you grow up and grow the balls to move to another country you are not treated with this immaturity.

    How embarrassing to be Irish.

Anyways Dragon good luck with the move and good luck in Ireland. I've moved around myself and although very exciting you'll be very nervous and it can sometimes be lonely. The first 1-2 weeks are the worst. You'll wonder why you ever did this and the nerves will be shot...but you'll settle down after a couple of weeks.

So again good luck with it all. Believe it or not the Irish are very welcoming, unlike (some of) the twats that have posted on here.

If you need any info just ask

    Oh and bring an umbrella...........

    New to these parts eh?

OP, stepping on a leprachaun is a capital offense in Ireland. Ignorance is not considered a suitable defence.

When people start ranting about this or that about Americans, just smile, don't try to argue. Americans as a whole are not a favorite and you'll realize this as soon as you step outside the US.

Don't try to keep up when drinking with the Irish. Just don't even try.

Hahaha, it's cool. It's been an interesting thread so far. (I know how's the craic, btw. Nice try :P) If someone here made a post about coming to America, the Americans would've done the same thing. :)

Yeah, Janesville, had a huge KKK rally about 15 years ago, and it made national news. Geraldo Rivera (A big, controversial news personality at the time) even got into an altercation at that rally. It was before I moved here, and they're pretty much phased out now.

    Anyway, thanks for the comments.

Welcome to Ireland - the land of horrible syntax!

Is it advice about Ireland your after, it is?

Ah you'll be fine. Here are three BIG don'ts:

    1) DON'T belittle anything by comparison to America, England etc... Because we dont care :p
    2) DON'T take too much piss of history. We irish are well known to laugh at ourselves and make jokes about our sall standing, fondness of potatoes, the IRA and the government. But if a person from another land takes the piss too much, well the fellows likely to be challenged to 'setteling this over a pint' where foreign policy and moral issues of their own land will be debated. Or you'll get a dig.
    3) DON'T try to keep up with us drinking. You'll loose. When it comes to pubs, we like our Guinness, Whiskey, Beer and anything poured from behinda bar.

DO steal our women with that American charm you have. Our ladies seem to love it. And your competition (Irish blokes) are normally very shy with the girlies, and need six pints in them before they'll make a move :o

    Good luck to you! ...

    - Dean

    (Ps. BRING AN UMBRELLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Get used to taking a waterproof coat with you where ever you go. That includes lovely sunny days.

Don't pay any attention to people who say 'I hate Americans'

They are usually immature and trying to sound cool but secretly jealous because they would love to be there among their favourite music & movie stars :pac:

As was said above you'll probably get lonely in your first few weeks, it's natural. It sometimes can be hard to figure out basic stuff like shopping because everything looks superficially different, but that's just culture shock - eventually you'll be able too know your Lidls from your Marks and Sparks. When I went abroad I found I really begun to relax when I reached the point where I stopped comparing everything to how it is at home and just joined in with the new culture. Comparing is a bitch, home always seems better because that's what you're used to.

At college I'd join some clubs as soon as you can as it's a great way to meet new people.

I'm as psyched as I am scared as hell. As I mentioned in a couple other forums here, I'm going to school in Dublin (DCU in Glasnevin, living in Santry to be precise), and it's a huge deal for me as I've never set foot in an airport, much less left the country. My mind is racing, and I'm practically shaking with anticipation.

    Nice one, enjoy yourself :D
I hope you like a drink otherwise you will be pretty lonely....

Oh and leave the leprecauns alone, most of them have miximetosis

Make sure to try some haggis while you're over here, with lots of potatoes, obviously.
Also if you can make it to lough ness to visit our famous monster - He only comes out to play if you play his favourite song on the bag pipes though!

I live in Santry :D Whereabouts are you staying?

Regarding what people have said about it, while not particularly upper class, there are way, way worse places, you'll be fine.

I also go DCU and am a metal fan :o (I noticed your posts in those forums previously)

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

If your house does become infested with leprechauns it's best to trap them under chairs and duvets and call your parents.

Drink Buckie, drop mitzi turbos, shift birds and get a good look at the sun before you leave. Read this post a year from now and it will all make perfect sense.

dont be surprised by the amount of cursing.
instead of "it was a good night"
we say "it was fuking savage" or "savage craic" or "fuking animal" etc.. etc...

exspect to be slagged (made fun of) alot.... just slag us back...but with stuff we understand.
