I don't fear Islam. I fear the mentally ill people who practice a twisted and extreme interpretation of Islam.

-I know of no other religion where its followers (extremist or not) will gladly blow themselves to kingdom come, purely for their religion

Just to pick on these points, I can think of one other big religion and one big country (albiet a particular part) where these points do apply..........

If they are not extremist by definition they are hardly going to gladly blow themselves to kingdom come, purely for their religion

Extremist followers of other religions may not (often) gladly blow themselves to kingdom come but it doesnt stop them gladly blowing others to kingdom come.

I always thought the reason most people who hate islam hate it because the governments of "muslim countries" have a tendency to force their values upon the population.

What i find hilarious is when people come on boards saying we should fight back by forcing our values upon the muslims living here :pac:.

Sorry for your loss DazMarz, but surely they're allowed defend themselves.

You gave me a perfect opening to agree with you and have a little rant.

The argument of 'Oh if WE went to Saudi Arabia and wore a bikini we'd be arrested' always comes up. Well, just because there are some incredibly oppressive governments in operation doesn't mean other more tolerant Western governments should model themselves on them. That particular "Hypocrisy" argument really grinds my gears.

    Fundamentalism is the problem.
I fear extremist Jews and Christians as much as extremist Muslims.

Ireland have only had a small dose of fundamentalism but look where it got us. Imagine growing up amongst Creationists, Ultra Orthodox Jews or extreme Muslims.

A bit off the point, but Saddam had been terrorizing the Iraqi's and causeing mass genocide for years.
I am pretty sure if i was Iraqi i would be more than happy letting the Americans in for a cup of tea. The US army have had a few civilian casualties (just like any other war), but still, it is better than having a
    few million casualties under Saddam.
back to my origional argument they were attacked by a foreign force and they reacted.

Read an interesting thread on a US website once about the attack of western values and freedoms. It's title was:

"Not all muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are muslims"

Open to criticism but interesting nonetheless.

Documentary a while back on CH4 about circumcision in Britain. The jewish one was administered by a Rabbi trained in by another Rabbi in the home, the muslim ones were administered by a Doctor in a hospital.

Nelson Mandelas tribe practice circumcision at 18, with no anasthetic. He's not a muslim.

ANY belief system can be seen as fanatical when you strip it down to the bare bones, see below.

Islam is one very, very screwed up religion, it has to be said.

-Their main prophet was a paedophile.

In Christianity, he's a zombie. With catholicism, cannabalism is endorsed.
-They think it normal to circumcise boys from infancy to adolescence WITHOUT painkillers/anaesthesia

The Catholic record of respecting and not harming kids is just as bad.
-It is written in the Koran that the ultimate goal will be to spread Islam across the face of the Earth and Islamic law will prevail across the world (ie. no non-religious music, no alcohol etc.)

Catholics are not supposed to have any sex unless it's for procreation (single men aren't even allowed an orgasm). Seem fair and rational to you?
-I know of no other religion where its followers (extremist or not) will gladly blow themselves to kingdom come, purely for their religion
How many non-extremists have ever blown themsleves up? Also, Timothy McVeigh was not a Muslim.
Yes I am prejudiced against them; several relatives of mine were killed in either 9/11 or while serving in the American Armed Forces.

I cannot help it, but I see it that they have no problem foisting their beliefs upon the world (forcibly if need be). Yes, the Catholic Church did the same in the middle ages with a little thing called the Inquisition, but that was an unenlightened time, when the Earth was still supposedly flat.

In this modern day and age, religion should be taking a back seat to logic, reason and common sense.

You call THIS an "enlightened" time...?!

Also, while I symphasise with your losses, the American Armed Forces hae killed a few people, too. And not all of them were terrorists.

Extremsim is the problem here. But extremism can come in many forms - extreme nationalism, for example.

(Apologies if this is seen as an anti-catholic rant, but it's the only religion I know well enough to comment on)

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

terrorism only got it's name when it was us westerners who started to feel the terror. When the USA or 'the west' inflicted terror in the past it's always been in the guise of heralding a new beginning for some nation who didn't know better.

There's a huge ethics issue there for western society.

Think the IRA (the "real" version, anyway) would disagree.

Terrorism is simply a word used to make you look like the victim so that your actions are justified.

I'm saying terrorism is a word used to describe terror only when it is felt here in the west or where 'we' have a special interest - I'm not sure they would disagree with, agree with, or have any opinion on that tbh

Ah terrorism, the great hoax created by certain world leaders to invade certain countries. It's funny how people bought it. Tony Blair and that fcuking retard Bush are laughing their asses off at everyone. Two scumbags that should be fed to hungry pigs...

You know what the problem with this world is? Idiots trying to enforce their values and beliefs on the rest of the world. Why don't the just fcuk off and leave people alone? Let them believe what they want... You don't see America and England stepping in to protect the people of africa, do you? How many maniac dictators caused genocide? You think America and England gave a shít about them? Not at all...

I can't remember who said it, but a great little quote, goes something like this:

"If somebody has something you want, make them your enemy and take it from them"

Oil, natural gas, rubber... Can you guess what countries America "liberated", or tried to, which had one of these comodities? There's quite a few over the last century.

Religions don't scare me, figure heads with personal agenda's scare me. Extremests of any religion scares me.

Goes to show how ignorant people are really. To think that islam is such a wicked and cruel religion is quite funny. Who the fcuk are we to judge? Our main religion is equaly as sickening. People's lack of understanding make them a pretty scary bunch, acting out of fear that the nasty islams will come and blow us all up...

We forget quite easily that our main religion has murdered vast amounts of people itself, through "christ our lord"... To say that these times are "modern" is bull****, obviously people have no idea what afghanistan and iraq are like... They are in no way modern. Just because the west is advanced doesn't mean the whole fcuking world is...

I have to agree with this. You could also add N. Korea. I find it hard not to feel cynical about the true intent of the Bush admin bringing western values to these places. However I do believe western values to be far,far better than sharia law.

Anyone that choses to live their life by a book of fairytales scares me

I agree totally with you. If I was living in either the US or UK I would be more suspicious of Islam & Muslims. Is it rational thing to be like this? I dont care too much for ANY religion but what some followers of Islam seem to be doing is taking THEIR own view on how to MANIPULATE the koran for their own goals in life.As with other orders/cults etc,IF You want to live back in the DARKAGES by all means do so but first do it in YOUR COUNTRY and if that country dont want it buy a few acres in a dessert somewhere and live your life the way you want. It is when these headcases start Talking/Acting and Doing in the name of religion do I start to feel uncomfortable.

I found this poll pretty annoying.

Four out of 10 British Muslims want sharia law introduced into parts of the country, a survey reveals today.
The ICM opinion poll also indicates that a fifth have sympathy with the "feelings and motives" of the suicide bombers who attacked London last July 7, killing 52 people, although 99 per cent thought the bombers were wrong to carry out the atrocity.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1510866/Poll-reveals-40pc-of-Muslims-want-sharia-law-in-UK.html

Sure,4/10 is a minority but it's a pretty big minority. I don't know about anyone else but I never want to see sharia law in Ireland.

I'm not too fussed about the blasphemy law either.

There are two differences though. One being the blasphemy law is significantly less harmful to our society, another being it actually got introduced, which sharia law never will.
