Gaeltacht - Donegal

    Hi,

    Does anyone know if there is a gaeltacht in Buncrana or in the Inishowen area????

    No. The Donegal Gaeltacht would be in part of the Rosses, Gaoth Dobhair and Gleann Colmcille and Baile na Finne. The strongest gaeltacht area would be Gaoth Dobhair. Also a small gaeltacht in Ros Guill. The official gaeltacht would cover areas that are not really Irish speaking such as Dungloe and Falcarragh. (Not that there are no Irish speakers in these villages but the prominent language is Béarla.

    You could check out www.gaelscoileanna.ie to see if there is an all-Irish school in a particular area which would indicate that there may be Irish speaking families in the area. I am sure there are such schools in Inis Eoghain.
