just wondering how secure is it to use online.

they send all your banking info to your email address. if someone hacked your email it would be very easy to get access to the wirecard account. if your current account was linked to the wirecard account funds could be withdrawn

what are the opinions of wirecard users here. its a big thread and cant find info relating to this by search function

    thanks for replies

I find Wirecard very good and I don't believe it's unsecure.
As regards setting up i seem to remember they send an activation code to your mobile phone, etc, when you first start with them. They never send your card details via email. The numbers are only accessible via your a/c.

On the whole, I find Wirecard the best of the prepaid cards that I've tried.

    Hello everyone,

Was trawling through the pages on this thread but cant sem to find in simple terms the answers to my questions!
So ill just ask them now and anyone with any experiance with this card can hopefully help me out

First of all, my Aib account is bone dry and I dont want to put money into that account as it will all be sucked into paying off my debts. So how can I get started with Wirecard?? Do I need internet banking or what or can I just lodge it into their account manually??

Secondly, if/when the money is lodged do I have to wait til they send me out the card or what?

Again any (in very simple terms-ha) help will be greatly appreciated. I seem to have gotten myself in a very confused state over all this and Im sure its prob dead simple!!

Open a new bank account with BoI or someone .. problem solved.. :pac:

Just use it for Wirecard.. set up internet banking.

Can wirecard be used as a prepaid Mastercard and in turn avoid Ryanair admin fee for every passenger?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,009 ✭✭✭PeteK*

I think you'll get charged that fee with a MasterCard anyway.

Can someone help me please? I have signed up for wirecard and got my virtual card. I think this service is deffo superior to 3v which i've been using for a while. Most of those payzone outlets listed on their website dont even do the vouchers anymore.
Anyways i deposited money from my AIB account to the Wirecard acc in Germany but then i read there was an account in Dublin i could deposit to instead. So i went to their website and found the .pdf that is supposed to be a list of foriegn accounts but the only account on it was in like chechzlovakia(cant spell it!).

Where can i find the details of the irish deposit account in Dublin?? :D

It's gone and it was only a source of problems when they were operating it. It would take days upon days for them to credit your Wirecard account when you lodged to their account in Dublin. Stick with the international payments.

Oh okay, I was under the impression that a domestic transfer would be speedier but if that's the case then I'm happy doing it this way! Thanks for the reply.. Can anyone confirm if the physical MasterCard is available to Irish republicans? ;)

I registered to Wirecard just now but my problem is, how am i suppose to lodge money on it? Apart from wire transfer, the only option I can see was credit card---which I don't have. The reason I want to use Wirecard is that I don't have a credit card, only a Laser card. Can I use that one to fund it? How do I go about it? The direct debit option's not there. Thanks!

As far as I know the only options for crediting your account is by a wire transfer from your bank account or by using a credit card. If you have AIB Internet banking you can use it to transfer money online or maybe PTSB and BOI have this feature too. Your other options are to go into the bank and make them do it for you OR you could sign up for 3v and buy vouchers to credit your wirecard account! Check out www.3v.ie.. Going the 3v route may defeat the purpose somewhat though, hope that helps!

Why not just open an a/c with Ulster Bank and get a visa debit card? No need for these virtual cards then.

Yes I heard of this ulster bank card just yesterday! Is it new? I'm thinking if it is a new thing then maybe AIB and the other banks may start doing a similar debit visa/MasterCard soon.. Also AIB do a credit card especially for third level students which I might look into.. ;)

Yes it is fairly new, just a few months I think. Halifax also offer Visa Debit instead of Laser, they were the first in Ireland. Ulster bank probably have more branches than Halifax if that is important to you.

As for a credit card, AIB's 'Click' offers the lowest APR, but really you should only be using a CC for convenience (Online and Travel) and cash flow assistance rather than credit!

If you don't need the month or so of free credit to help manage your cash flow then maybe you can just do with the Visa Debit card for online and holiday use (much more useful than Laser) then you'll save yourself €30 per year in CC levy.

I have the Halifax and UB debit cards. One good thing about Wirecard is that there is no ERTF fees or foreign transaction fees or anything like that....you just pay what you see advertised.

Ok so lastnight i went to buy a 3v voucher while i wait for my bank transfer to wirecard and i read about this Payzone Worldwide Money Pre Paid Mastercard. The pack costs €6 and you get your prepaid physical Mastercard, valid for up to 3 years, and a loading card to top it up. However the fees are horrendous.

    Loading €10 - €350 = €3.50
    Loading €351 - €500 = €5.95
Transaction Fee = 2.95% of purchase price
    ATM fee = €1.50
and a charge of €3.50 p/m for every month your account is inactive after three months.

And you still have to find a payzone outlet to top it up. I would definately not recommend this to anyone but just to let you know about it. Visit www.payzonemoney.ie. Might as well get a real credit card before getting this.

Its there now. Problem is, I can't link it to my paypal account "denied by the credit card company" or something. I realize my address is not exactly the same as in Wirecard. When I edit my address in Wirecard when ytou save it, it won't retain it. I kept on adding "rise" but it save it as "drive" Very weird! I guess I'll email then and wait before I could use paypal.. :(

So are you using your wirecard account to top up your paypal account? Why don't you transfer money directly from your online banking to paypal?

Does it not require you to go into the bank each time with a spacial number to transfer? I tried this and assumed that and got confused and gave up. :pac:

What i do is go on to AIB Internet Banking and there you can transfer money to your paypal account using a code card! Your paypal account number and sort code can be found in your paypal account. There is no need to go through wirecard to credit your paypal account. :)

Log into PayPal. Select "My account" then click "Top up Account". Simple.
