Question about VW Golf Sportline alloys

A friend asked me to post this question about some alloys he bought for his 04 Baseline Golf.

He bought a set of VW 16" Sportline alloys and put them on the car. He's worried keeping them might damage the car as the ride is a bit harder than with the old 15" wheels.

    Any views on this??

In my opinion, as long as you dont go bigger than the biggest size offered by the manufacturer on the higher spec models, everything will be ok. I would be wary of too much extra weight though so dont use really cheap heavy wheels.

The 16" alloys on the Sportline also come with lower profile tyres meaning they have a lower side wall than the standard 15" tyres. This would impact the car's ride.

When I ordered my 07 Comfortline Golf I requested 16" alloys at the last minute. So last-minute that they were fitted at the dealership.

I asked the same question regarding ride comfort - only to be told that VW only alter the suspension/absorber setup if you go for 17" or more. I later checked this up on the website to see that it's a mandatory upgrade if you order 17" or more alloys from factory.

So your friend is safe. :)

Definitely not an issue, tell them not to worry about it.
