Preusse you'll have to consider a few more stickies at this rate:D

Yes arnhem44 but I wonder....would it make sense to put up one sticky for all private collections or a sticky for each private collection

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,368 ✭✭✭arnhem44

Not sure how one would get around it,maybe it might benefit the forum better it the posters items were posted into the relevant threads already started to keep them active,I'm not saying that someone shouldn't show there collections, theres been some great items posted up here in the last few weeks,it would just be a shame if one collection was overshadowed by another, they all deserve the same amount of traffic.Just wondered would a sticky better serve collections which could be updated from time to time by each member who uses it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,427 ✭✭✭Dr Strange

OK, I'm gonna sticky the last three collections in one thread and anyone who has a collection up of wants some threads included in this one just let me know. Let's see how it works out. ;)

This thread may be used to post an introduction to your collection. This is mostly for pictures showing combination of items. If you want to show a particularl piece you can use the existing threads on specialised items or, if none exists, create one (e.g. Iron Cross, Bayonets, Political Awards, Police Awards etc....).

    Thanks! :)

How about using this sticky to put all the links to your collection ? That way each user would have one post in this sticky and it would be far more manageable.

Here are some of mine posted on here so far :

Yes, that may be a good idea Morlar. Before I play around with this sticky again I would like to hear from the others as well though. Just to make sure.

So guys, it's no problem to reinstate your individual collection posts and sticky the links here. You can always add a new link to your post here (if it doesnt work just pm me and I'll include the new links whenever you wish).

I,m not sure if this is the right forum.
My grandfather fought at Ypres and later in Messopotamia where he was commissioned and where he won the Military Cross ,he later joined the RFC and after the war captained the Garrison in Cairo,
He was an outstanding sportsman and played soccer for Leicester City and Waterford ( where he was from ) , he also played Rugby for the British Army and cricket for the MCC.
The family have various items .
Pictures of him in uniform including one standing by his plane.
The Military Cross with ribbon in the original presentation box together with his service medals.
    His regimental sword and scabbard.
    Field Binoculars.
A rugby cap awarded to him and a squash trophy he won in Egypt.
A rather ragged copy of a magazine entitled " Our Irish Heroes " in which he features.
Does anyone know of any Museum or Exhibition who would be interested in exhibiting these items ?( preferably in Waterford area )

My own stuff , a mixture of optical items, all cleaned restored and in working order.
The degree of restoration , limited to restoring function , repainting and a complete re work no, honest wear has not been corrected.
Most of what I have an interest in is German WW2 navy - cap tallies , postcards, photographs- a little eclectic in some respects .

Other than this RN optical items mostly hand held along with civilian binoculars by Barr and Stroud by and large these always involve a rebuild but that done they are as good as new.

My other vice - Reichskrieg and State Service Flags, backed up with some of the more common party banners and some Hitler Youth items.
Finding decent examples within Ireland - hardly possible, the few that I have seen very poor order and rather over priced.
