Optons for replacing a knackered sky+ box

My brothers sky+ box is knackered and he wants to get a new one. What would be the best option? Do sky only offer deals to new customers? Would it be worth checking on ebay?

how long has he had it? whats wrong with it?

He could ring sky and say he is canceling cause the box is broken,
they may offer a replacement for a fee of course.

its well outside the initial one year contract
dont sky then normally giove you a refurb box as the replacement?
