i would definitely accept the death penalty to f*cking horrible people who have done disgusting things, but only if the courts are 100% sure they are guilty.......

    That sounds like an ultimatum

Just to clarify something, who do you mean by "they"? The murderers, serial murderers, the convicted... Just looking for something less vague.

Because no-one has the right removing someone from this planet, no-one. Death is an easy way out for criminals.

Make the prisons tougher. No TV, no newspaper, no food, no water. No recreational activies, no games room, no visitors. Strict protocols, any rules broken, conditions get tougher. Prisoners used to clean the streets. In chains. No wage. No lights.

You have to make it harder than living outside the prison.:(

No speculation about ongoing murder cases, please. Innocent until proven guilty and all that. You all know what I'm talking about.

Forced Labour, deprived of Human Rights, Prperty of the State would be a better option in my opinion.

The power to end people's lives is too great for any person to handle responsibly (that's providing some people do deserve death-which is questionable). Surely it's just the same for society if someone guilty of multiple murders is locked up forever.

You have to make laws in such a way as to protect the common person from abuses of power. Not granting the government power over the life and death of it's citizens is a tiny price to pay to ensure much bigger injustices never occur.

I used to be in favour of the death penalty, and I still am in theory - I truely believe if you take an innocent person's life you forefeit your own right to life, however, the justice system isn't perfect and there is always the chance that an innocent person can be wrongly put to death.

Like I always say, capitol punishment brought us from caveman times to civilisation. It's been proven to work, tried and tested. ;)

And how can they be 100% sure, taking into account human error?

Take America, for example, who have capital punishment. There are many cases of innocent people being put to death.

Even if you think capital punishment is a good thing in theory, could you really endorse bringing it back considering it will inevitable result in an innocent person being put to death?

    hi there guys,

having been reading the papers lately and in the last few days especially about the thug who shot the men dead in pearse house and the way he has shown utter contempt for the law has really pi$$ed me off, he pulled his trousers down to the judge and told him to "spank that hairy arse and suck it hard" ok so when he gets life then we have to put him in prison and pay 40 or 50 gand a year to keep him there,

Why not just bring back the death penalty and get rid of him and save the state a load of money,
the amount of murders in recent times is DISGRACEFUL... these guys think they can do wat they want, I'm sure if the death penalty was in they would think twice before stepping out to kill another human being, so far this year 6 people have been murdered, thats one every 3 days, if that was to carry on all year there would be over 1000 death's at the end of this year

Bring back the death penalty for these scum !!!

I would also include scum like Joe O'Reilly and that inbred scumbag Ronnie dunbar

I hope you have better evidence for murdering than the evidence that sent him to Jail.

And what if someone had doctored the tape? If a film like Avatar can be made, I doubt that would be beyond the possibilities of some people.

These guys already face the death penalty from rivals on a daily basis, and these ways of execution are a hell of a lot more brutal than anything the State could get away with.

There's no way in hell it would act as a deterrent to these people.

    Good :P

I personally don't agree with capital punishment in theory, but even for those that do, I think it is a very dangerous thing to advocate.

In theory I can see a logic to it.

However, there's no way it can practicaly be carried out, given how arseways our government and justice system is. Also, I don't want the State to have life and death power over me.

Most of the people who commit crimes bad enough to even theoretically merit death are involved in such bad **** that our death system is no deterrent.
Add to that the incredible legal costs of the death row/appeal cycle (unless you want to eliminate this and run the risk of even more innocent people being put to death) and you'll see why I'm utterly opposed to the idea.

There's only one reason for the death penalty not being reintroduced: to be PC! That's it - no other reason.

Nonono Dudess. It's because we're all a bunch of hand-wringing, bleeding heart, trendy, liberal do gooders who would change our tune the minute it happened to us.

    I wouldnt.

There are too many known cases of innocent men subsequently proven guilty after the execution.

Joe was guilty and id rather see the man kicked in the nuts at high noon every day and share a cell with a convicted rapist called Jimbo, the 7' tall 400lb mildly retarded ex american football playing homosexual with a penchant for overweight middle aged whiteboys, however there is no room for collateral damage, so i would prefer that people that have been proven on a number of counts get the bullet aka ted bundy, gary rigeway ,David Berkowitz & Jeffrey Dahmer

What about to protect people who are victims of miscarriages of justice?

If they had the death penalty in the UK, all the members of the Birmingham Six, Maguire Seven and the Guildford Four would be dead.
