Tommy Bolin 1951-1976 still probably best known as the fella who had the bad luck to step into Ritchie Blackmores shoes in 1975 just as Deep Purple reached the end of the line amid conflict and disinterest, Bolin was without one of the finest and most flexible guitar stylists of the 70s. Able to mix it with avant-guarde jazz musos and old school heavy rockers alike while his solo material is notable for its mix of light and shade, the acoustic and the very electric.
