Just got one of these a few days ago. I can get it working no problem on a couple of PCs with XP on them. However I can't get it working on my laptop which is Vista. Seems to install ok, and recognises the stick, but won't connect using it saying it cannot connect and to ensure that nothing else is using the device.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software (VMC Lite) but no joy. Anyone any ideas before I brave tech support?

I upgraded to one in Mullingar a few weeks ago. The guy in the shop said he had got a bad batch of them. (His demonstrator didn't work properly). Eventually got fixed up with a working unit.

or maybe try new software here

Still no joy with this on my Vista laptop. Tried everything and spent the guts of an hour with tech support trying stuff. (Thanks Paul for having support call me).

At this stage, I've even wiped the laptop hard drive and reinstalled Vista from the original image that came with the machine (it needed to be wiped anyway), then installed the Vodafone software on the fresh Vista install and STILL no joy. Works fine on 2 different XP machines, but not on Vista.

Getting exact same errors as listed in this thread:
    https://forum.vodafone.ie/index.php?/topic/1190-k3765-stick-modem-not-recognised/

Nobody seems to have an answer. :(

Got problems with the K3765 as well:
    1. First install on Windows 7 with the built in VMC Lite v9.4.5.19167.
VMC only recognises it as a modem, not as a network adapter.
    Result: RAS error 635
    2. Installed the same adapter on a different machine with XP SP2. Same VMC Lite version. Again, VMC only recognises it as a modem, not as a network adapter.
    Same result: RAS error 635
    3. Set up a microsoft dialup network connection on the XP machine using the K3765 as the modem. Used *99# as phone number and tried both "web" and "vodafone" as username and password.
Result: It connects, followed by the message "registering your computer on the internet" followed by "Error 619".
    4. Installed VMC Full v9.4.4.17702 downloaded from vodafone (seems to be the latest version available for download) on the XP machine. Again, the K3765 is not recognised as a network adapter.
Attempting to connect with the modem results in RAS error 635.
    Any suggestions?

This USB stick quite honestly seems to be a complete piece of crap. Unlike you both, mine has worked on XP from day one (laptop and desktop), but I've tried it on two Vista laptops with no joy. Got RAS error 608 on one, the other kept crashing when I ran the VMC software and tried to connect.

I bought this modem on the 31st Oct last year and was told there was a bad batch of them, but mine wasn't one of those. I spent an hour onto support removing software, reinstalling software, rebooting, removing DVD software, rebooting etc. with no success on Vista. As stated above, I even completely reformatted the machine with the original disk and tried installing on it - no joy.

Last month, I got Vodafone fixed broadband in the house, and got a Bewan router with that. The Bewan has a USB slot into which you can plug a 3G modem to use as backup if/when the DSL fails. I thought "great, it doesn't work on my Vista machine, so I'll plug it into this then all PCs on my network can access the net through it if the DSL goes down". Plugged it in, no joy - not picked up by the Bewan router.

So I rang support again today. It transpires that what I suspected all along is correct - there is something wrong with these modems - they need a firmware upgrade. I have the instructions to do it and am to receive the actual upgrade program on CD in the post (why they can't just put the damn thing on the website is beyond me). Anyway I spoke to a helpful guy in VF today which was refreshing after speaking to a few people who clearly knew not a lot.

This firmware upgrade should fix the RAS 608 error I'm getting, although I'm not sure it'll fix the error you are getting - worth a shot though. Whether it'll fix the issue with my router not recognising the USB stick remains to be seen.

Poor show though imo. How can a device be released to the public when it has clearly not been tested? How can it take so long to resolve an issue like this when it occurs? And once such an issue is found, why are people not informed that there's a firmware update available for their modem? I only found out by braving phone support again, and even at that had to ring back when I was disconnected. Credit due to the guy I spoke to in the end - he was very helpful and immediately knew the issue.

Will let you know how I get on.

    snap!

I was on to data support today and the guy was very helpful, but that was only a few hours ago and I still think it's very slow.

I have a diary thread in Vodafone forum you can have a look at or add to:

Finally got this working on Vista after I received the CD in the post with the firmware upgrade. Pity it took 3 months.

So if any of you are having the RAS error 608 on Vista, the firmware upgrade will definitely sort you out. I am not sure that it will fix any other error like the 635 error.

Can any of the VF folks on here give me a postal address for consumer feedback? I can't find one on the website, only a postal address for business customers. Want to put it in writing that I don't feel I should be paying for the past 3 months when this modem clearly wasn't working (and when VF support had me spending hours deinstalling apps on Vista when it was clearly a firmware issue rather than anything to do with my PC configuration).

    My first post.
Bought a Vodafone Broadband Mobile today. "Easy set up" they said.... 12 hours later still no joy!
Vista picks up the USB as a CD Rom Drive. Rang Vodafone support, added, deleted, reloaded software and devices.
Is it actually possible to get this to work at all??????
Have tried deleting the "Vodafone Mobile CDRom USB " in device manager, and then installing new firmware software, but it doesn't recognise the USB as being connected.
Vodafone software not installed onto laptop either.
Any help very gratefully received!!!..... Please....:(

You bought it today? Had they not updated the firmware for you? Is it a K3765 stick? The firmware fix should get it working on Vista if you were getting the 608 error.

Well, 18 hopurs later, 3 calls to Support in Cairo from here, Adelaide, and AT LAST it's working.

But.... still a conflict with CDDVD drive.

Today, spoke to a Vodafone Support Tech - Victor, who was on the ball, and extremely helpful. Sussed out the problem pretty quickly.

I had however, gone to another machine with broadband and downloaded the latest Vodafone Mobile Connect software and installed that. The computer immediately recognised the modem.

The software that the modem installed was not the latest and hence the conflicts. Why don't the give customers a CD with the latest software on it at the time of purchase if they know there are likely to be problems.

It would have saved about 14 hours of frustration, several hours of tech time and a lot of cursing!!

    Thanks for your help

    this is the fix

the problem isn't even on your machine its a networking problem at vodafones end.

ring their tech support tell them you are getting error 635
they will recreate your account on their servers, then you click connect
    and live happily ever after.
    :)
