So its the time of year we sould be starting new years resolutions, but lets face it, we nearly all like chips, so in houner of the humble chip, wheres the best place in sligo, or what ever your craving is to get them.

For me, it depends on the craving, home made chips has to Happy Eater arcross from the bus station, kebabs from Zam Zams on High Road or Best on Castle Street, Best also could for the post club Soakage. If i ever get the urge for a battered mars bar again, Borzas on Mail Coach Road, and curry chip, nothing beats or comes close to Four Lights.

Food Experience in Wine Street Car park have not tried yet nor have i tired to place beside the Video Shop at the Car Park enterence.

So give us your ideas, and what brings you there.

Surf and Turf (the food experience one) does a mighty burger. Borza for everything else. And outside SLigo town, the Humble Spud in Gurteen is splendid.

    Four lights hands down.

Nothing beats a cury cheese big four sauce and bacon chips.

    Nothing!

I agree, Borza is definitely the way to go. Their Curry Cheese Chips are to die for. Mmmmm. Zam Zam and Best don't impress me much

The Bucket of Chicken in KFC is much nicer than the 4 lights chicken, grease and all, but if you could mix both of them together, that would be great.

I am a fan of the four lights, definitely, but there is better out there.

Has to be either Borza or the 4 lights tbh.

Mollys do lovely chips, fairly greasy but really tasty

Probably P Borza (except for their fried chicken, which in my experience, was absolutely awful. And I've tried to give them the benefit of the doubt by having it a few times... always overly greasy and terrible).

Happy Eater wins, by a mile!

However Four Lights is always good for after a night out. Handier for walking to too.

Also, the Picnic Basket in Ballymote is great for a hangover cure!

I'm not a fan of Mollys or Best, and have yet to try Borzas. Is it really that good?

Edit: Now I am starving! :(

    Borza. Cod and chips.

    /what time do they close?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,882 ✭✭✭fozzle

On a Sunday? about 12 I think (could be an utter lie).

I get a craving for 4 lights chicken, I loves it.

Outside of Sligo, in Ballymote, you will not get a bigger feed than in Picnic Basket. Any man that leaves there hungry must have hollow legs!

Dominicos in Ballymote can be lovely, but it can also be poor enough, I have been given cold food there at times.

    4 Lights
    ........
    Daylight
    .........
    Molly's
    Happy Eater

4 Lights is the best all round imo, but a bag of Molly's chips with salt and vinegar is hard to beat when your cold and hungry this weather. Reading this I realise I've not tried many of the newer places. A bit of a traditionalist me:)

borza for me - the battered sausage and chips for 4.20 is the best value meal in town - delish.
Was not very impressed with surf and turf on my first visit - prawns in a burger just dont work

Borza for it's cod and chips is probably my favourite of the current lot with the 4 lights after that.

Tbh I think the standard of chippers in Sligo has been pretty dismal the past ten years or so.

I remember when the chips from Molly's were fantastic, not anymore. On the nostalgic tip I really miss the Cafolla (sp?). Going in there on the occasional saturday as a child with my mum and dad was always a treat.
