    Hi!

I am not sure if you have heard about IMS network

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_Multimedia_Subsystem

I would like to know if in Ireland any provider such as Eircom is dealing with the IMS for the future.

I was working in Spain as J2EE programmer for a specific part of the IMS network, but after I left the job I have not heard very much about IMS anymore and I am not sure if the global project is successful and it is gonna be implemented or it was just one of these thousands of I+D ideas that never will occur.

Basically IMS is a "network" to join fixed phone and mobile phone under VoIP using the protocol SIP (and SDP to negociate capabilities).

When i was working on it, the main concerns were for the providers about how to earn more money (of course) using VoIP systems (All-IP world) without becoming simply Internet access providers. That's why IMS appeared.

So, does anybody know anything about IMS in Ireland?

    Thanks!

I think a few networks here for done trials for IMS (or at least parts of it) but nothing concrete has come of it, which is pretty much the same as most countries.

Most of the newer network equipment is "IMS ready" but not doing IMS stuff.

Personally I think what's holding IMS back is networks can't think how it will make them money. There are alot of good ideas in IMS (and it incorporates alot of things) but how to get them to make money is holding it back. And part of this is based on networks (especially mobile networks) being willing to give up on their traditional money making revenues and trying to move on to newer things.
