Am I being sensible or am I panicking?

I remember empty shelves in shops and queues for petrol during the 1982 snow.

So far I’ve bought some extra non perishables (beans, soups, potatoes etc) and also stocked the freezer with bread and meat.

I also have to admit that I’ve filled two 20L drums with diesel for my car and am not letting the car fuel gauge go below half full.

Anyone one else stocking up? And if so with what?

Anyway. It's no harm to have some extra supplies of basics - bread, cheese, ham, chocolate, milk, tea etc etc, saves you unnecessary trips to the shops.

What is wrong with Irish people.. they presume current situations will last forever

The celtic tiger, the recession, this cold snap, etc. There's even talk of an "ice age" on another thread ffs! In no more than 2 weeks from today this cold snap will be gone and forgotten about.

I actually feel guilty about the diesel:o. I had access to two suitable empty 20L drums and decided that the worst that could happen is that I’d feel foolish using it to fill up next March/April.

Also, I work in industry and am involved in the loading and transport of bulk liquid, and in 20 yrs I have never seen problems such as the frozen plant I have been dealing with over the past two days.

Oh were are not even close the to weather conditions we had in 1982.

I remember opening the front door back then and a 6 foot high snow drift caved into the hallway. I was only 4.5 foot tall at the time. I became a human snowman. Frickin hilarious.

do you live 20 miles away in an isolated place, that might be a reason, if not , you are panicking

Might be time to raid your stockpile of common sense because of hazardously deficient levels on your cop-on gauge.

I will buy a slice pan of bread and some cheese tonight. Tomorrow I may go to the shop again. And maybe even again on Sunday and Monday.

I'm buying enough to keep me going until next Friday, it won't cost any extra.

I suspect stocking up on stuff would be something I would usually do, but I really havn't been all that affected by the cold snap, apart from having to walk into town from Glasnevin on New Years Day.
