Yes, we're free now to wake up, and enjoy our ****ty lives. Well, in fairness, it's abit too early to be taking a 2010 quality of life survey, no wonder we did so bad, it's been frozen over since 2010 began!

USA, Canada and Italy all in the top ten. Which political system to follow! Bit of a mishmash there.

Kinda contradictory putting the quality of life of the eastern europeans ahead of us when they travel here for a better quality of life.

According to the survey the reason we fall behind is because of the cost of living.

Rating for the Health system seems about right.

Ranked down there with Mexico, Bulgaria, USA, Egypt and Turkey.

All countries that are well known for their high level of health care...

In my opinion the quality of life in this country is extremely high, regardless of recession....every one of us won a lottery being born here.

No mention of the incredibly sh!tty public services we have? The fact that the country grinds to a halt after a bit of precipitation? Public transport becomes unusable? The government cant show leadership in said situation? Getting sick and having to go to hospital is a death sentence for some people? The clergy and gardai are almost completely untrustworthy? I'd say these things add to the really crap quality of life in this country.

Who gives a shit? I'm still living fairly comfortably considering all that's happened

Even if we had been higher on the list there'd still be complainers saying that the results are wrong etc

I think they calculate risks from climate into that. Barbados = hurricane risk.

I think they stopped coming over and started going back :D

If anyone's left in Ireland they'll be back on the first Ryanair flight after reading this report.

It's all a conspiracy to rid ireland of migrant workers!

    hahaha poor swedes!

I think they messed up sweden in that report, if you look at the first column they scored 0, where even some of the poorest countries score 50. sweden didn't do bad considering :)

Ah yes, the world famous International Living magazine survey.

An irish magazine focused on highlighting other places round the world to go on extended holidays for all i can tell. Can't for the life of me think why they would rank Ireland so low. From their About Us section

'You can live better, for less, overseas.'

Tell the gullibles Ireland is worse than Belgiun (Belgium !!...Belgium !!...come on) and they'll all be off seeking paradise abroad is it ?

    OK, yeah. Thanks for that.

This is a holiday brochure selling dreams, not real life....not living conditions for the average citizen.

How was that cost of living index actually generated. 28 of out 100 would seem to suggest that the greater % of the population live in absolute poverty and can't afford to eat or clothe themselves. Despite whatever polemic might be flying around i think we can accept that this is a nonsense.

Live = Visit & Cost of Living = Cost of Visit.

Ireland Cost of Living = 28 / 100 - deflation is occurring, cost of living is
    actually reducing

    Iraq Leisure & Culture = 49/100

UAE Freedom = 25/100 (Jail sentences for sex outside marriage!)

    Riiiight. Sounds scientific alright.

Most eastern Europeans don't get the high paid jobs and I think that's pretty well known. Those that do probably deserve them.

Let me ask you, why would they travel to our country when their own country has a better quality of life? To help us poor, starving Irish? I think not.

I'm perfectly happy living in this country and would choose it over France or Germany in a heartbeat, I really don't care what a survey says.

Initially I would probably chose whichever one I had the most PRSI/National Insurance/Equivalent contributions in ?

We were low on that particular one last year too. I'm going to go by this study http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_Human_Development_Index more than anything. We're ridiculously lucky to live in this country. Also love how USA is only three places below us in terms of Health apparently. LOL at that.
