dé luain agus an luan

    hi all this always confuses me
    is dé luain- on monday
    and an luan just a monday

    for e.g. if i am saying - i will be working on monday next
    can i say - beidh mé ag obair dé luain seo chugainn or
    beidh me ag ag obair an luain beag seo?

    táim beaganín trína chéile !!

    To be honest you'll be understood saying both but you are correct in what you are saying.If something happens regularly you need to use Dé Luain and not An Luan

    mar shampla

    On Mondays I play tennis - Dé Luain imrím leadóg
    Last Monday I played tennis - An Luan seo caite d'imir mé leadóg.

    So using your example

    I'll be working next Monday - Beidh mé ag obair an Luan seo chugainn

    but

    I work Mondays - Bím ag obair dé Luain

    This is all from my memory so I mightn'd be 100% correct. If I'm wrong hopefully other posters will let us know!

    Chonaic mé í Dé Luain.

    I think they have something similar in French, eg
    samedi = Saturday
    le samedi = Saturdays/every Saturday
