Hi guys, I hope somebody can give me some suggestions. I am using a HP Pavillon dv9500 with Windows Vista. I cannot access the internet in normal mode, but I can access it in safe mode. I have tried an AVG scan, a Malwarebytes scan, a SmitFraudFix one and a Spybot one. They found some tracker malware, but nothing serious. I have attached the hijackthis log. Can anybody help me?

If you can only access it in safe mode it seems more of an conflict rather than a virus.

What does the browser say when you try to access boards.ie in normal mode?
Try pinging www.boards.ie from normal mode, what happens?
Check the hosts file, what entries are there?

HJT log looks good, nothing nasty.

When I try and access www.boards.ie I get the message "Internet explorer cannot display the webpage.". This is the error message I get on when I try to access any webpage. When I ping it, I get "Reply from 89.234.66.107" 4 times. I have disabled all non esssential startup programs in Msconfig. Where can I access the hosts file?

You have connection to the internet in normal mode as you get ping response.
    Hosts file is in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\
Open in notepad, it should only* contain the entry 127.0.0.1 localhost

Btw make sure you have all the Vista updates.

*depends, some progs will use this file. You can post the entries here if there's more than localhost.

Hi Magnus. I got it. The problem was that Norton Internet Security was partially uninstalled. The Norton Removal tool fixed it. Thanks for your help.
