I went to Utd and did a bit of a cleanout first season, got rid of Berbatov, Valencia, Scholes (who went to Liverpool!) and bought in some quality players like Eto'o. Best players I've bought over the last 2 seasons are

    Plasil (from Wolfsburg I think?)
    Gourcuff (from Bordeaux)
    Raul Albiol (from Real)
    Michel Bastos
    Enke (from Hannover I think)

I recommend Navas as well, I'm Real and he's far more effective on the right than Kaka is on the left - might offload Kaka in the summer :D Quick q - is there any kind of reward, achievements or after-match scenes if you win the cup/league? And is there never any European matches?

I had the same issues with kaka out wide and attempted to sell him in the summer but found no one was willing to pay the $79m for him. So i ended up keeping him by default and trying him up front instead. Best move i ever made. He is definately worth keeping if u use him as a striker, and sit ronaldo in behind him and benzema. I found ronaldo was wasted out wide, but in a CAM role he often finds space at the top of the box/penalty spot as well as being quality in the air. His height/jump are wasted on the wing, and this also applies for Kaka. Ya Ya Toure is my favourite DM in fifa...solid across the board.

Oh right, did you change your formation from the original default one in that case? Just because I have Ronaldo sitting behind Benzema and the two CM roles are more defensive

Some players I've signed that have worked out well for Villareal in my 3rd Season In Manager Mode.

John Obi Mikel CDM from Chelsea -
    Michel Bastos LM ?
    Vitor Obinnha ST (great pace)
    Fernando Gago CM Real Madrid
Barry Murphy GK Shamrock Rovers (Cheap but good for a reserve GK)
    Mat Hummels RB ?
    Santon CB Inter Milan
Achille Emana CAM Real Betis (great player to use as a winger, has pace and a good crosser of the ball)
    Jovetic CF Fiorentina
    Keirrison CF ?

Also Guiseppe Rossi from Villareal is a quality player

I play 442 with the midfield set in a diamond formation. I think u will find Kaka is quality up front with ronaldo sitting in behind.

Now before u all start to laugh, another player ive found to be quality squad player is Chris Burke from Portsmouth. He has great pace, and good cross and a solid shot. He is great for beating his man out wide and crossing, or cutting in and striking from distance. A cheap, solid buy.

Mark Quigley off Pats. Do it, sign em. Quality player.

  • Registered Users Posts: 588 ✭✭✭laoisforliam

Rickie lambert and Danny Welbeck are a formiddable partnership up front for Charlton in the Championship, i have douglas Costa on the wing as well lightning quick and great shot

Not sure if he's been mentioned yet but Victor Moses from Crystal Palace is a quality striker to sign. Only cost me €2.5 million. His skill is great, pace is quality and his finishing out of this world. Bought him for Newcastle.

His overall ratinig when I signed him was 76 and has now gone to 81.

Do it. Do it. Do it.

With lower league players its a bit of a gamble. Ive found that buying guys that have good acceleration/speed more so than overall rating do damage in the lower leagues. Just see on average what your top 5 players are rated, and then search for players that around roughly that rating, maybe slightly higher if u have put some money into your negotiator. Then out of those searches, check their stats and see that "acceleration" (2nd stat down) is higher than most. They are always a worth while buy as their speed will take them past lower level defenders, and u will get enough chances, that even if his finishing isnt great u will get one eventually. Once u buy a few new players, just pump all your money into fitness for a season to allow your players not to tire after one match.

Lads I signed 2 players on loan, and signed a bunch of free agents. But then when I go to sign a player for cash it tells me I can't make that offer because I already have 2 players on loan?? Anyone else have this problem??

i play manager mode as birmingham, signed wheater from boro, taylor from newcastle, traore from arsenal, wilshere from arsenal, and ledley from cardiff. the two centre halfs are solid at the back, traore flies down the wing, he's got super pace, i play ledley in right midfield, he's a good crosser of the ball and a great dead ball specialist. wilshere plays just behind the front 2 and he banging in the goals
With blues i just signed gamberini, him and roger johnson in defence is solid

I have two Blackburn teams now and alternate them. The second team play in the cups and against weaker PL teams:

    First team:

Lloris (gk - bought from Lyon, rated 86 and very good and quick)

Sagna (rb, don't ask me why Arsenal were selling him)
    Nelsen (cb)
Samba (cb, very good from corners and set pieces)
Clichy (lb, pure class, arsenal had him and sgna on transfer list for some rteason)

    Pedersen (lm)
N'Zonzi (cm, class player who gets all over the pitch and is a great tackler)
Ramsey (cm, great player bought from arsenal who's very quick and, like N'Zonzi, gets all over the pitch)
Gohkan Inler (rm, bought from udinese and is great at getting crosses in, listed as a central mid but is great at crosses form the right and I'm playing two tall strikers)

Di Santo (st, very good finisher, wasn't great first season but has come on alot)
Kalinic (st, again wasn't great first season but has come on).

    Reserve team:

Fielding (gk, former England u21 keeper who is at Blackburn, decent for a sub)

    Rafael (rb)
Wheater (cb, bought from Boro and great at corners)
    Givet (cb)
    Gibbs (lb, very quick)

Tosic (lm, bought from United and good at chipping in with goals)
Steven Reid (cm, good holding midfielder who can come forward)
Jack Wilshere (cm, was starting him up front and he was doing well but moved back now that I bought Sturridge)
Diouf (rm, top scorer last season with 29 and great up front but is a good winger with speed)

Strurridge (st, just bought him and his finishing should come good)
Hoilett (st, quality striker who was starting last season but kalinic and di santo have come on so well)

I also have Benni McCarthy who plays as a holding midfielder now from time to time!

    Billy Kee
    John Miles

    Dean Winnard

    All off Accrington Stanley

Started manager mode with Accrington. Been promoted twice straight to championship (and am now top). Also got to league cup final last season.

Kee has a great shot on him. Joyce can play anywhere in midfield. I am not that keen on Miles, he seems too weak for me! Winnard is a solid Rb/CB. Also, randomly Lees at CB plays well despite not having great overall rating. Richardson isn't bad either.

Ironically, I picked Accrington in Fifa 09 because they were a half star team, so picked them again this time. Surprised to feel how good they are. That said, they are still only a 1.5 star team for me even with a few free agents to stengthen the squad.

Emnes (plays for 'Boro.) Great striker. Bought him for Notts County, now in the Championship and banging them in for fun.

Tom Cleverley also is a fantastic addition to your midfield for just over a million. Great pace on him.

Gilbert (Arsenal) is a fantastic RB. Very quick too which is great for running at players down the wing. I'm not sure how much he is as I only got him on loan.

Bahrijm Sadridaj (Free agent) is a good back up striker. Overall is about 57 or so but he's a lot better than that suggests. Only 23 and is good for back up.

Jose Enrique (Newcastle). Bought him in my third season. Got him for 2 million. Well worth it. Great LB and has got great pace. Very rarely has he been beaten when chasing the ball.

Oh and as for a goalkeeper, I recommend Ode Soderberg (Newcastle) Overall is 67 and he's cheap too. About a million.
