    That's stovelid's avatar: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/member.php?u=59322

I must admit, I wasn't too sure what that avatar was from when I first saw it - then the top whatever comedy movies on whatever 4 featured it. Trading Places is a bit before my time (haven't seen all of it, just snippets - it's a film that's never discussed without mention of Jamie Lee Curtis getting her baps out).

    Chris Farley FTW.

Always associated Farley in my mind with this SNL sketch.

Yeah he's had some good roles.
I love him as Grocer in Gross Point Blank.

John Candy. Anyone who has seen Barton Fink would never want John Goodman as a neighbour, not to mention an uncle.

I used to mix John Goodman up with the guy in Cheers.

    George Wendt from Cheers?
Man this is turning into an Eighties nostalgia-fest. :D
I used to loved Cheers- always thought the comedy in it was sharp.
loved Frasier's interaction with the locals, liked the banter between Cliffie and Norm (Hey, Nawmie). :o
Loved Woody Harrelson's innocent farmboy routine (testament to his acting ability that role).
Brings us right back to John Goodman i guess (Harrelson's counterpart in Kingpin).
Bill Murray was in that, wasn't he- Ackroyd's pal in ghostbusters.
What about Bill Murray- he'd be a cool uncle.
    Circle of life.
    ^Seamless.

John Candy was brilliant, great cameo in Home Alone as the top man in the Polka Kings. Honorable mention goes to Chevy Chase while we're talking about great comedic actors of the 80's! Fletch and Fletch Lives are classics!

John Goodman in Oh Brother Where art thou mode would be fun, John Candy though would just edge him,who wouldn't want dust bin sized pancakes. :D

Thats exactly why he would be my choice. He'd be great at funerals;)

Barton Fink! saw it last week, wasnt expecting what happened with john goodman's character.

he's a bit of a headcase in The Big Lebowski

John Candy without a doubt, a really loveable man. Dan Akroyd plays a lot of grouchy un-uncle-like characters in films.

To the person who said they mix John Goodman up with your man from Cheers, when I try to picture Goodman the other chap's face comes into my mind:D.
