Oh yeah...forgot I did that. It was a crap picture anyway, I forgot my hair gel that time, so I was going around with stupid looking hair the entire time. It didn't do me justice :pac:

Common sense. The other "Know Your ______s" are in forums most regularly used by adults. This is a forum aimed primarily at teenagers. A bit of extra care and attention would be needed to make sure people are posting safely. I trust you don't need me to explain what I mean by that!

Yeah actually, I kinda didn't think of this as the teens forum because a lot people here seem to be older than me, and I'm no teen, I'm a manly man.

I've had to give out 3 infractions this week. 2 of them were red cards and the posters involved also received bans, so those two were absolutely necessary. The other infraction was for a poster who had already been gently warned not to post rubbish in the "Know your *description thingy*" thread and had ignored that warning.
Piste has been infracting and banning spammers, who also deserve everything they get.

I won't discuss individual cases in detail, but I will admit I've had to be fairly strict with a few people. What I will say is that yellow cards are intended (in this forum at least) to be taken as warnings. I know that certain parts of the site (e.g. Soccer and P.I.) give bans with yellow cards in most cases. But, awkwardly enough, different forums use the infraction system in different ways, depending on the amount of hassle they get.

This is my first time modding, so I'm still very much on a learning curve. While yellow and red cards will never be popular, I do try only to use them when I think it's absolutely necessary. With this week being Christmas-time, I have been sending a lot of PMs to people, giving them a chance to edit their posts, and I can think of only one case where I've had to do the deleting after sending a warning by PM.
It's worked well this week, but it's not something I'll be able to do regularly after the holidays.

    Tl;dr?
    I'm trying my best :o

Not to tell mods how to do,but Spamming the thread much? PM make more sense?

This thread has been re-designated a "forum feedback" thread. I want it to be somewhere for people to share their ideas about the forum. I honestly have no idea how you thought eVeNtInE was doing anything wrong

Yeah, I don't have a problem with infractions/warnings being given to spammers, trolls and general dicks as they fully deserve it, but while yellow cards might be meant as warnings here they do make genuine posters a bit pissy, probably because of the big yellow card attached to their post and the permanent mark on their profile.

For genuine users I just think deleting the post or warning on thread/via PM is a better route to go unless they've been causing hassle before. I mean we've lost one good poster over something relatively small like, where a post deletion or a PM might have sorted it out.

It's nigh on impossible to anticipate how different individuals will respond to warnings. I would hope that the vast majority would be sensible enough to recognise what the yellow card represents on this forum, and see it as the gentle reminder it's intended to be.
Also (and you'll know this well as a mod yourself) Moderators are generally expected by regular users to set a good example. That said, when rules are broken, the consequences apply to everyone equally, including mods.

    I have two infractions.

A yellow card from soccer, leading to a one week ban, for "abuse", meaning I called Kalou a fucking donkey after he missed an open goal from 8 yards!

A red card from advert.ie , leading to a one month ban, for "thread spoiling", meaning I tried to get someone to reduce their price by saying, "Its only €150 in argos" with a link to the item.

    Whoops!!!

The point An Fhile makes (f*ck your new name effort of typing that out :p) is valid we are a fairly small forum that have about 20 maybe less regulars posting. I think it's the fact that we are that small and *close?* that some people expect that Moderators here only need to have a shiny tag and do no work unless a spammer comes around. Thus when someone quiet popular in the forum has a falling out (I do not exactly know the dealings of this so i won't make much of a comment) it isn't a surprise that everyone will have a grumble and moan about it.

I guess alot of people don't like being yellow carded as they feel it's a personal attack (Iv felt the same over one i received here ) on themselves but it really isn't, they are they to put a little bit of order in the forum/thread to make sure things don't get out of hand.

While i understand that people feel that we can police ourselves in what we say we have to tow the line with whats acceptable and whats not. Infractions are simply a box with a bit of yellow on it, it wont stop you achieving whatever you may wish to do on boards nor will it prevent you from interacting with it either (Unless your getting alot of them :p).

So everyone just take a chill pill and step back from this for a moment. Deleting posts wont solve the problem as then you ll never be able to point on unacceptable behavior as it will disappear from record that and from experience you 'll always get the response of "Where's my post blah blah blah". Personally i think the mods here doing a good job but getting angry or pissed off with them for doing what they are supposed to do is just a bit childish tbh.

So let's not let these events derail this forum and try and sort out any bad blood between posters and mods through PM's.

PS: Can this event count as a argghhh :p

I do see what you mean, I find an on-thread warning does have a better effect than a yellow card, that seems to invoke a hostile response. I usually forget that the yellow cards even exist and just give infractions for offences that don't warrant a ban but need a little more than a warning.

That's a very valid point and one I'll definitely keep in mind. I admit I've given infractions in the past where on-thread warnings would have sufficed but when you're a Mod you often need to make quick judgement calls; sometimes you get it right, sometimes you don't. Now that I've been modding this place for a year (and somehow have been trusted with two other forums since!) I'd like to think I've got the hang of this place but that's not to say I'm not going to make mistakes here now and again.
Ideally I hope I never have to infract (be it yellow or red) any regular users that I know are good contributors, and if I ever do I hope that they would know that I'm just doing my job and that it's nothing personal and that they can always discuss it with me over PM if they feel they've been hard done by.

Anyway, cheers for all the feedback guys. Everything brought up here will be taken on board! :)

    Hello all.

I'm going to keep this one short and head on my way. First of all, I'd just like to apologise to the mods for causing such a commotion. I certainly wouldn't have wanted such an uproar in my own forums, and as such I'd like to say sorry for being the root cause of one.

Secondly, while I can't really apologise for the actual post which I was warned for as there was nothing hateful/naughty etc. in there, I'm sorry that it was deemed rude enough to warrant a yellow card.

Finally a big thanks to anyone who has expressed support in anyway to me over the past few days. I have found it uplifting and quite, ehm nice.

    D4RK/dork ONION/Bunion aka Paul :)
