Hi just wondering how others would feel or did feel if this ever happened to you!

Was on my way to my mams house earlier this evening she asked me to stop at a shop and pick her up a packet of cigs on my way. So i pulled into a garage near her house. I went into the shop and asked the guy behind the counter for 20 cigs.He then turns to me and says have you got any ID!!! I am 28yrs old!!! I didnt have any on me but was so shocked I was being asked for ID I just laughed and told him Im 28! He looked at me a bit funny and then says just checking and gave me the cigs.

There were a few people in the shop and i got a bit embarrassed. I didnt know whether to be flattered that I apparently look more than 10 years younger than I am or be insulted that I dont look like an adult old enough to buy ciggarettes!

    How would you feel??!!

At ten years older than you, seriously weirded out.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    You should be flattered :)

What's there to be annoyed about?

It happens to me all the time, take it as a compliment.

    Why focus on the negative?

You should be insulted. He thinks you look like a teenager. They talk stupidly and listen to terrible music on their shíttey phones on the bus all day. You should have spat in his face, almost as bad as confusing you for an outie.

Don't be annoyed. I LOVE getting asked for ID. Hadn't happened for a few years now but it certainly happened in my mid-late twenties & I took great delight in seeing the look on their faces when they saw my birth date. :D:D:D

    Hmmmm, probably a compliment.

Either that or he should have gone to specsavers.

How about you shrug it off as one of those things like a man would do instead of dwelling on it and wondering whether you should act differently and are entitled to be upset about something like a woman would do.

Shouldn't you have had your driver's license with you?

Because Thrill ---> Trill, which is a brand of budgie food

Since I'm 16, I'd have to be convinced the guy behind the counter is blind and completely retarded to not ask me for ID (and believe me, it's more common than you think, there's one or two of em in every town).

Maybe she cycled and thats why she looks so young and was asked for ID.

True enough. I assumed from the OP that she was driving.

I never understand why people get annoyed about this kind of thing. Would you prefer if you got offered OAP special prices when buying things ?

Some men do that to flirt, card you when they know better.

It is usually accompanied with a puke-inducing "ain't I the charmin' one" grin...as if you should now thoughtfully consider leaping across the counter and planting a wet one on them for it.

which of course, I always DO, seeing as it's only polite...

(not to mention, they often forget to charge you for the purchase).

Em....hope you didn't pay for those smokes.

Heading down the shop to pick them up for her isn't exactly a winning strategy in that respect.

OP, you should take up smoking. That would sort out your problem fairly quickly.

When i was 16 i was getting served in off licences.... When I was 21 i was refused a lot more.... I blame it on oil of olay......

Now i am an ugly fart who buys meals for one and 6 cans. I get asked "Are you sure you dont want more"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,905 ✭✭✭✭Handsome Bob

It's alright for the women, but not for blokes. I get annoyed when I'm asked, but maybe that's because it's the same tool who asks me every week, I think he's just taking the piss at this stage. :o

It's not that he thinks you look 18, he just thought you looked 21 or younger as they have to ask id if they cant tell... some just do it as routine to anyone in their twenties.
