Question in regards to repairing my weapons.

Will I ever be able to repair a weapon without having to go to a vendor?

I mean I know I can repair them myself when I find more than 1 of that weapon, but I have a Gauss Rifle from Operation: Anchorage that I'm pretty sure I'm not going to run into another one of for a while (if ever) I bought the workbench for my house but I can only use it to build weapons and not repair them. Repairing them via a vendor is expensive.

So will I ever be able to repair them myself without owning a load of the same weapons?

As far as i remember, the only way to repair a weapon, other then a vendor, is by using another gun of a similar type. Doesnt always have to be exact (i.e. normal assault rifle can repair the silenced assault rifle), but i dont think there's any other way to repair them. I think the Gauss gun was the only one that i ever had to pay to get repaired.

I don't think so, the parts have to come from somewhere. However, as your repair skill gets higher, then your weapons improve.

What stats do I need to buff to increase how much the vendor will repair my weapon. Do I need to increase my repair or barter skill? I'm up to about 100 repair skill yet every vendor won't repair my gauss rifle past 48%

I'm pretty sure each vendor has a set level it'll raise your gun to. Your repair skill only applies to self repairing.

Iv never seen a particular vendor that had REALLY good repair skills. The only one i can think of is convincing Moira Brown to stop her book and her repair skill increases to 75%. There are other negative consequences for stopping her book though i think but also one or two more positives.

From what i remember, the Gauss gun degrades pretty slowly though, so it shouldnt be that big an issue. As long as you have one or two other decent guns (Lincoln's Repeater and a Fat Boy ftw), it shouldnt brake very often.

Depends how much you use it I guess. I use it all the time :( I've had to start using my Chinese Assault Rifle instead though.

Thing is, when I got the Gauss Rifle it was dealing around 80 dmg, now, it barely does 50.

Some more questions though. Is there any way to protect against the withdrawal symptoms? They are a real pain, I mean if I take merely 2 Jets I'm addicted to them and have to go back to the doctor. :(

I'm having trouble with this since I reinstalled on Windows 7. It now crashes on the launcher. I can get round this by not launching the GFWL, but it then needs the CD key that is linked with GFWL and I have broken Steel which would need GFWL. Anyone know how to get round this? I would reinstail, but don't think this will fix.

Ya, i suppose that by the time i had the Gauss gun, i also had a lot of other unique weapons, so didnt use it all the time. As for withdrawal, i cant say. I've never actually used any pills/mentats in the game, except Rad-x.

The meds are handy for giving me more AP in VATS for an extra shot or 2. I didn't need to use them before as I had the gauss gun which dealt enough dmg by itself.

I have the fatman, and also Eugene from the rangers, but the fatman has limited ammo (I only use it when I encounter a few enemies bunched together) and Eugene is useless for ranged attacks, even when standing right next to the person maybe 30% of the bullets hit their target :(

I've been concentrating so much on my repair, science, medicine and lockpick skills I haven't really buffed my weapon skills at all.

Have you tried the usual things; running as administrator and in compatibility mode?

I took a quick look online and it will run in 7 for some people, 32-bit more than 64-bit from what I see.

Mentats were handy for a quick boost to Int for higher level computer hacks, if your just a % point or 2 below.

I never really used the gauss gun. Once I got my silenced asssault rifle, that was it. Gauss and plasma etc all cause enemies to notice you afaik.
All I need now is a silenced sniper, though the railway rifle does afair job!

Re: Whoever was talking about wanting better repairs.

Have you invested in the merchants in Crazy Wolfgang (i.e., talked to the bloke in Canterbury Commons to invest)? He repairs to 85%!!! If you get them to repair your stuff, you can get your money back by selling him other expensive items.

I can now get the basic game to run, but when I use Broken Steel it doesn't launch. Deleting this DLC fixes the problem, but I want to use it as I've already completed it vanilla.

Can DLC have a compatibility mode?

I had this DLC working in XP on the same machine a few months ago :/

Weeder you're dangerously close to the end there - seems you've concentrated on the main quest. You should drop the main quest and go a wandering. The main quest makes up about 5% of the game really and is one of the least interesting quests.

    Hey all,

Have a PS a while and was looking for a game to invest in for christmas. Is this worth it. I have become a bit blasé with FPS to be honest, seems most games are FPS especially the biguns.

Is this game worth it or is it just another FPS?

For starts it's an RPG rather than an FPS. And there's about 40 to 70 hours of play in there if you put the time in. It's truely epic. My game of the year last year and few have come close this year.

Is it played from a FP perspective?

You can easily switch to third person view if you want. FP is by far the best way to play it imo, feels a lot more immersive. Plus the camera angles can be odd when you go into corridors or enclosed places, and it also makes looking at the small items on shelves a lot more difficult.

I've done very little in the way of the main quest myself
just installed the dish in the Washington monument
I keep getting distracted when wandering around. Every time I find a new entrance to somewhere I have to go in and have a look around.

Maybe I should work on the main storyline, and the expansions for a bit. I haven't found any new weapons in a long time and my current set is getting boring.

Thats actually a good place to start wandering off and doind side quests. Three Dog's station will be available all over the Wasteland now, and he occasionally mentions side quests, and will talk about all your heroic/horrible acts so far.

srsly avoid the main mission, the game can be completed in an hour.

just go walking /running from bigger ****. The game is more about the world then the shoddy main quest and if you complete the main quest without having the DLC the game is over kinda sorta.

Go meet the people and kill them

I found this fix on the bethsoft.com forums. Worked for me :)
Windows Aero is causing the error, it has to be set to windows basic.

Also, along with Aero, if you have the gadget sidebar enabled then disable it. Everything about Vista, the dynamic wallpapers, the gadget sidebar and Aero can interfere with fullscreen games and cause them to crash.
