limewire?

    hi just got my new hp windows 7 laptop iv always used limewire for years for downloading music but i think it slows down my laptop and is prone to viruses is there any other safer option available for me

    Limewire is sinful and I wont even allow it on the work machines, which I dont even own or am meant to care about.

    Consider Bittorrent protocol when downloading freeware in the future. Thats about all I will say. You shouldnt be downloading music unless its through iTunes or similar.

    I'd say it's more 30% infected malware/spyware and 69% porn....

    No matter what antivirus you have Limewire will mess your computer up, it simply will not catch 100% of viruses/spyware/malware etc. Limewire is a joke, never ever use it...ever!

    That uses the Gnutella network aswell so that wont solve the viruses problem! If you really need to use limewire then make sure to click the music tab, then make sure the file extension ends in .mp3, not .cmd, .pif, .exe etc.. You do this within windows explorer, right click the file and select propertys, I would reccomend others advice to avoid such p2p programs tbh though..

    Don't use Limewire. We had Limewire on our old computer and it destroyed it. Literally. It can't even be fixed. I'm not sure if I can say a site over this though. Don't ruin your nice new one with it!

    Yeah i'm pretty much broke. I had typed in something like 40/50 but thought someone would go "oh i'll do it for 20" so i thought i'd stick it in anyway. Plus if it's cheap he might actually take me up :)

    Fun Fact: PC World wont hire people with too much know-how. Or if you do, you have to have the absence of a soul. All the better to push copies of M$ Office instead of simply telling customers to save €100 and download OpenOffice.

    That's what people call business... Any store in town knows if you went to a shop out of town or some shop across the street the customer would get it a bit cheaper if not up to half the price. If you went to night courses for something they're not going to tell you where to get a book instead or about some website where you can get it free. When you go to your mechanic he's not going to tell you hey you know youtube shows you how to do it for nothing. That's not being evil that's just making money. I've used open office. To be honest i think Ms office is worth the money. Open office has all the basic features but for some reason i cannot stand the way it handles files (as in it doesn't do it easily) and the UI isn't as handy either.

    Have to agree. Personally wouldn't touch it with a bargepole.
    I've had to repair far, far too many machines over the years because of this one app (and similar) for people.

    And not the good type of porn, alot of child porn floats around on p2p (aka pedoshare) networks like limewire, kazaa, bear share and the likes. If you are going to download things illegaly there are much better ways to do so, ones that wont get you V& !

    LOL, don't kno whether to take that seriously or not!!

    Norton is a virus, worst software ever made. Its a hog, not efficient at what it does, in fact there are people making a living taking it off peoples pc's and telling them they gave them a free upgrade

    Same goes for McAfee by the way, even worse POS

    I know there's a lot of crap going on in the computer world of people over exaggerating but this is one time where it really isn't the case...
    What do we hate about malware so much: slows our computers down
    What do we do to get rid of the problem: anti virus/firewall etc.

    Considering those 2 facts, norton slows down a pc so bad that it's worse then any malware infection I've ever seen. It truely is a horrible horrible piece of software. I'm not even sure it does that great a job keeping the real malware out
