Things that won't be around in 10 years

Technology is changing everything. Things have changed allot in the past ten years even, so how will technology change things in the next 10 years now that it's so cheap and so well developed?

Hard copy media will be gone, no more cds, dvds, bluerays, maybe even flash memory will become redundant due to the internet.

In other countries with developed infrastructure like Nigeria and north Korea obviously. Ireland will still be a backwards muckhole in 10 years.

Everything in nature is analogue! So it can't go unless we do.

Digital is more likely to go.

Children will be amazed at the stories of how it only took their parents five minutes to get to school in something called a car, and how there used to be things called shoes.

No point telling them about the internet and computers, because they won't believe a fucking word of it.

Many parts of Ireland will probably not be around. Ireland will become a series of Islands and we can go back to being simple Island folk knitting aran geansais, smoking pipes and marrying our young child cousins.

At the next election FF will scrape back into power backed by a small group of desperate Greens, who will then insist on an environmental protection agenda that will result in the following:

All motor vehicles banned with the exception of ministerial cars.

Horse transport will not be permitted a substitute as horses fart methane and contribute to climate change. Mushrooms will no longer exist because they need horse manure to grow, and there won't be any horses. Over the ten year period all surviving horses will be exported to France, where they will be eaten.

Oil or gas fired central heating will be banned and householders with solid fuel fires will be obliged by law to brick them up. People will be advised to keep warm by taking regular exercise. The sick, elderly, or disabled who can't do that will be entitled to claim a warm blanket each on the Welfare State.

Air travel will be taxed punitively to the extent that one air fare to the UK will be the same price as buying an aircraft. Ryanair and Aerlingus will close down and Micheal O'Leary will face a long prison sentence for inciting travel.

All public transport will be electrified using power from wind turbines. People will then only be able to get to work on windy days.

No new roads will be built, anywhere. They will no longer be necessary as there will be no vehicles. Instead the network of public footpaths will be vastly extended and it will be possible, and encouraged, for people to use them to commute daily from Cork to Dublin. That will permit them to work for half an hour every fifth day, and that will dramatically reduce the carbon footprint of commerce and industry.

Tesco, Dunnes Stores, Superquinn etc will have long gone and been forgotten since there wil have been no means of transporting the products they used to sell. Farmers will become used to selling all their produce at the farm gate, and people will do their shopping using the expanded public footpath network, carying bags made from biodegradable natural fibres designed to spontaneously decompose in a mild rain shower.

Televisions, electric cookers, microwaves etc will be a distant memory due to their power demand and carbon footprint. All cooking will be carried out on open fires in the middle of the kitchen, and using a minimal (and closely regulated) amount of carbon neutral renewable fuel such as wood chip or camel dung. Casually using that facility to keep warm will be interpreted as posing a threat of public obesity, and so local authority inspectors will be employed to ensure that no cooking fire is used for more than ten minutes a day.

As a result of these initiatives most of the attributes of modern society will be long gone in ten years, but the Civil Service will have expanded enormously in order to administer the Green laws. Ireland will again become a green land but will be limited to only three shades of green rather than the forty in the interests of the environment, since too much planting will release carbon from the soil and aggrevate climate change.

So there. Better boil the kettle now for tomorrow you might not have one:D
