Which one? Let us know how you get on.

I got it some months ago and I have gone from utterly woeful reception to faultless.

I ordered the Omega 8 (16db gain) but received the Omega 5 (14db). I thought I would give it a go before returning it and it turned out to be perfectly adequate so I hung on to it and got a slight refund. It was £37 which included £19 for postage! Still cheaper than Argos.

There are some details including a pic in this post: http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=60110587&postcount=15

I didn't get it to pick up Wales as I am near Limerick

That's a) a result and b) very good value. I wonder if they have a distributor in Northern Ireland as that could be combined with a shopping trip. Its very compact. I have always been impressed by Fracarro.

For anyone interested there is an electrical supplier in Wexford town doing the Triax Unix 52 for €40. I also got 100m of CT100 (MF100) equivalent for €32.

You will need to get yourself a FREEVIEW box... available at all good online retailers, like Amazon etc... The Philips box is very good value from CPC Farnell, they have an Irish arm do a search or check out the other well informed (But becoming increasingly long) posts on here.

Anyone think it is a good time for one sticky to give the basics on what is needed in order to pick up UK freeview...

    You have three options:

    a) Sky

    b) Freesat

    c) Get a UK Freeview box. If you had good analogue from Wales this should work. Google Freeview boxes.

I suggest you read these threads.

Yes, I think a crisp summary is needed explaining:

    a) Welsh DTT transmitters and timescales

    b) NI DTT transmitters and timescales

    c) UK HD services

    d) Services available

    e) Aerials and frequencies

    f) Costs

    g) Alternatives eg Sky, Freesat

    h) Relationship with Irish DTT channels and RTE analogue.

I fully agree : the Philips DTR 220 is a good starter as news reaches me that the HD DVB-T2 version will be available in March.

Not sure if he ships stock. I'll PM you the number if you want. The name is Levingstones Electrical Contractor, Redmond Road, Wexford - near the old cinema.

Will I need a dish on my roof with the freeview box or will it work through the aerial.

    aerial.

If you have a tv with a digital tuner in it-that will work straight away.

Another reception report complete with Mount Leinster CCI, via ukfree.tv:

I'm In Co. Wicklow (ROI) and normally get good reception from Preseli at roughly 80% signal according to my TV. From approx 10 days back I lost the muxes on ch 42, 45 and 49. Now I occasionally get 42 and 45 with 75% signal strength but little or no quality. Ch 49 is completely missing. I know they shutdown Ch50 mux for future HD.
Anyone else got these probs or is it my setup?

I'd say Gerry's delighted with todays developments as Mt leinster have ceased on 42,45 and 49 and all are coming in well today from presely.

RTE are now on ch 39 which I presume is in response to problems with CCI in sw wales.

Perhaps mrdtv-you could post on ukfreetv and let him know or direct him to this thread?

Hmm... more a blip. Does make you wonder what purpose this is all serving though!

If I can swing the very small contract aerial that I use for Preseli around this evening I will have a go. Pretty breezy out there though so I cannot guarantee I will get anything tonight and the weekend forecast is rubbish.

Anyone got a break down of what is actually on Ch.39...

Increasingly RTENL are like Marie Antoinette as the revolutionaries stand at the gate: unfortunately they cannot afford to eat cake. As I said before it makes better sense for them to broadcast on E39 and later the Group A channels. The retuning fiascos in Granadaland underscore this option but they are incapable of thinking out of the box. Meantime power is literally being wasted.

Firstly thanks guys for the re-direct from ukfree. Given that I barely get Mt Leinster analogue I thought I would avoid RTENL stupidity with DTT. Am I
naive to think that there are international agreements about frequency usage?
Whats even more annoying is that I cant get RTE DTT either.
I reckon its all a plot by Sky ;-)

Am I naive to think that there are international agreements about frequency usage?

The frequencies in use today for DTT were agreed at the United Nations ITU Regional Radiocommunication Conference (RRC) in Geneva in 2006.

Unfortunately there aren't enough frequencies to go around so countries and transmitters may be allocated similar frequencies and must coordinate with each other to avoid interference. Irish frequency allocations cannot interfere with UK frequency allocations in the UK and UK frequency allocations cannot interfere with Irish frequency allocations in Ireland.

In Ireland the Irish allocated frequencies take precedence over allocations from other countries, i.e. UK frequency allocations (DTT muxes) are not protected from interference in Ireland.

LOL!: It may seem like Uncle Rupert is behind it but its going to drive people to Freesat: a case of the Marie Antoinettes at RTE shooting themselves in the foot as the satellite revolutionaries storm Donnybrook and lay waste to any plans for commercial DTT in Ireland. Its a complete waste of licence fee payers money and a totally counterproductive strategy. RTE will be left to pay for three commercial muxes that nobody wants now and which will, in time, be skipped.
Peaceful coexistence with UK DTT is the way ahead as it seamlessly integrates the consumer proposition but they are incapable of this kind of thinking. Its all going to end in tears for RTENL and RTE.

What really bugs me about this jamming is that I've lost the only channels I can't get on Freesat e.g. Quest, Dave, Virgin1 etc
Oh yeah and RTE DTT is below 50% signal and too poor quality for me to receive. Oh what fun!

The Marie Antoinettes at RTENL will soon have their cake and power supplies cut off. Because of the plethora of Preseli aerials and the long distance propagation characteristics of high power COFDM Preseli COM muxes are effectively going to sink the use of E42, E45 and E49 by Mount Leinster in most homes in SE Ireland within range of Preseli. Onevision investors looking at this will think its another disaster. To reiterate the use of E39 and the Group A channels allocated to Mount Leinster makes greater commercial and consumer sense, and we all know what happened to the original Marie Antoinette!

Christ on a bike, Wicklow as good as has 4 live transmitters

3rock and Mt Leinster are on the border if not inside wicklow

Kippure and Greystones are in Wicklow and no doubt about it.

Wicklow may have 4 Tx sites but is also full of mountains.

    From RTENL 4/12/09
    Hello Concerned Viewer,

Four DTT (Digital Terrestrial Television) channels will be broadcast from Mt. Leinster on a continuous basis when DTT is officially launched. In the mean time these channels will be turned on and off according to engineering test schedules. Three of the four DTT channels are on the same frequency as DTT from Preseli as you correctly pointed out. However, let me assure you, this is by no means an oversight. These channels, and all the other DTT, Analogue, FM, LW, and Microwave link services, are internationally coordinated through the ITU (International Telecommunications Union), and our broadcasting counterparts in the U.K. are in agreement. Furthermore, this coordination has been planned with the UK such that transmissions from Preseli are not expected to affect reception of Irish DTT within Ireland, and similarly transmissions from Mount Leinster are not expected to affect the reception of services from Preseli within its coverage area in Wales and England.

    Doh!

LOL! The Marie Antoinettes hadn't bargained on the proliferation of Preseli high gain antennas with mast head amps for analogue TV which are now doing the business for Preseli DTT: these systems are being used for the unimpaired PSB channels, soon FTA HD, and won't be taken down. Do they expect people to use A/B switches between aerials and jump up and down between programmes to switch between Mount Leinster and Preseli. Not a cat's chance in hell. To underscore the point Winter Hill DTT is now being received perfectly in South and East Down (see post in WH thread..): as I said before DTT is perfect out to the edge of the service area. Just like Marie Antoinette they live in a fantasy world: the reports on this board tell the real story.

'Not expected' is a theoretical prediction: perhaps they should do some real world measurements. LOL.

She did get early retirement: it was a terminal event, rather like the prospects for commercial DTT in Ireland

I'm reliably informed that up to half the households in co wexford that used have analogue presely now have either digital tv's receiving the presely psb muxes or have decoders at this stage and this is rising.
