new age term for a slut? or is this just a popular lady? someone who is popular with men and likes to flirt?

Well a slut just gets with anyone and is easy as hell. I'd say a female player is a girl who has all the lads after her. She has respect for herself,standards and all that... and can play men like strings.

I reckon the term player cant apply unless she is sleeping around, a male player sleeps around a lot (isnt that one of the main characteristics of a male player?)

Ok maybe if the gal is dating three or four guys at once and leading them all on.

A girl that has a lot of guys after her and flirts with them all but never lets it go any further is just a prick tease.

I was referring to part of your post, but it was not specifically directed at you - calm down.

So let me get this straight. A male who chases girls is a player. But a female that does it is a "desperate slut".

Two words: double standard.

Are male players characterized by the fact that they chase a girl? I thought they were more popular and managed to 'play' different girls off each other....ie. keep them on their toes....keep them interested....but dont necessarily have to chase girls...chat them up a bit maybe. Normally they wouldnt be focused on chasing one particular girl for sex?? (and thus wouldnt equate to a male slut) but happy to be involved with many girls. The level of sexual involvement the 'player' has with these girls is almost secondary/irrelevant to my understanding/definition of what a male player is....

Good point. I suppose my definition of a player of any gender is someone who is popular and can sometimes take advantage (positive/negative connotations?) of that popularity by playing people off one another and/or by hooking up with a number of people.

Would the term 'player' necessarily always be negative? Your friend could have been using it as a double-edged sword ie saying that you're really popular but that you take advantage of that popularity. Then again, maybe he was just saying that you're popular and nothing more.

Player implies something more predatory and manipulative whereas a slut is someone who surrenders very easily and often and with different men, who just sleeps around.

Why are you saying calm down? I'm hardly worked up,haha.

A man who chases girls is desperate too. To be a player ideally you'd have the opposite sex chasing you. Where did I ever say there was a difference for men and women?

As someone else said before, the 'slutty' person is usually easy,weak,desperate etc.. while the player is manipulative,charming and strong. Both can have sex with lots of members of the opposite sex but under different circumstances.

For this thread to progress we really need to have the OP define two terms, or at least to define what they mean to him/her.
So, OP, can you tell us what you mean by 'Slut' and by 'Player'. Then we can see argue the toss on the gender issue.

A 'slut' in my opinion is typically a woman that sleeps with various individuals regardless of how well she knows them. Is defined by her promiscuity in general.

I have little opinion on what a female player is. By parallelling this term with the male version, I imagine a female player is someone who is quite confident, popular, may tend to flirt quite a bit with lots of women and is in general involved with many women on various levels.

I would like to know what people would consider a female player? Characteristics, definitions etc....

is there a connotation of promiscuity associated with term?

A slut is indiscrete and player isn't. A slut will go for the jiggy jiggy with little regard for the consequences to themselves socially. A player won't. A slut is instant gratification driven a player isnt. That would be my take for both genders.

A player knows how to get the opposite sex chasing them.

Additionally a female player knows how to show men just enough interest to have them showering her with attention and favours whilst not having to show any direct sexual interest in him. Attention from men is very important for some women as it one channel of competing with other women for status. Players are good at getting what they want.

To be honest that definition doesnt work for me. I have always thought that a player was someone who slept around a lot, 'playing the game'.

heres the Urban Dictionary definition:

a girl who:
enjoys playing guys, usually has more guys friends than girls, some of them are ex boyfriends or guys to whom she has given the "let's just be friends" speech. She is constantly seeking for the next best thing. She is emotionally unattached, but she manipulates guys to fall for her, probably has a bunch of guys she is playing at the same time. Through this process she gets "validation", she is getting bored easily and it's hard for her to commit in any exclusive relationship.
Lisa is a female player,she cannot commit to anyone, she takes care only herself. Her personal life is really complicated she has so many guys around her, some to make little things for her , others to give her gifts, others for sex.

I honestly never heard the word 'player' applied to females before, but I have known girls like the above definition
