The festival delay is particularly bad this year so I won't be able to make any real declarations until like May of 2010. Antichrist is the best thing I've seen this year. A tremendous piece of cinema if you can get past the reactionary press coverage and Von Trier's ridiculous public demeanour.

Seen feck all films this year sadly. Loved Zombieland.

The Secret of Kells. Just saw it with the kids. Animation is amazing. It would get my vote over Up.

I agree with your choices but cant help feel 2009 has been a very poor year film wise.

Weak year. Remember though that the Oscar contenders are yet to be released here.

Goodl list InKonspikuou2, I cant comment on all of them but I agree that those I have seen I agree with.]

    These two were surprisingly good:

    The Hangover
    I love you man

Neither would in the top ten in a very good year though.

    Up
    Moon
    (500) Days of Summer
    Let The Right One In
    District 9
    The Hurt Locker
    Doubt
    The Hangover
    Adventureland
    In The Loop
    Star Trek

I think it's been a decent year so far (and I'm quietly hopeful about Avatar!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 639 ✭✭✭Seillejet

I'm hoping Avatar can redeem the year a little alright. It looks good.

Zombieland and Watchmen would be the only really good films I saw in the cinema this year. Oh and Public Enemies, I know it's not too popular, but I really enjoyed it.

    Zombie land
    Star Trek
    Moon
    Inglorious Basterds
    The Wrestler

    not in any particular order

    Hmm *scratches chin*

Drag me to hell was soooo disappointing, very few funny bits and people seemed to have more of an orgasm towards it cuz Raimi "had returned to horror". Bah, horror me arse.

    For me:
    District 9
    The Hurt Locker
Gran Torino (I may be biased cuz I love Eastwood and understand his unique humour. Plus his racial slurs had me in stitches.)
Watchmen (I watched the 3 hour DC cut and strangely wasn't bored once.)
Mesrine Part 1 & 2 (Technically released in France last year but came out on this side in 2009 so I'll include it.)

Well there have been good films this year I wouldn't consider them to be the best. According to Wiki these the top 10 grossing films of the year as of 23rd November:

1 Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
2 Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
3 Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
    4 Up
    5 Angels & Demons
    6 2012 Columbia Pictures
    7 The Hangover
8 Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian
    9 Star Trek
    10 Monsters vs. Aliens

Going watching Harry Brown tonight so hopefully I can throw that into the mix.

And fingers crossed for Avatar, eh?
