Hurley makers....

Im interested in buying a new hurley. I have previously got O'Connors, Flanagan's and a few Wexford hurls. Does anyone know what Willy Bulfin hurls are like? Is it true he makes them for Joe Canning?

Always got O'Connors aswell, but moved on to a lad who makes them in Piltown, there good

Lads, how would ya go about getting a hurley made and sent out to ya? Was readin on a thread here before about bein able to do that. Was lookin on www.igahm.com, (all the hurley makers around website), do ya have to ring them up and give order, name address etc or is there an email address? What about payment even?
Would like to try those Dj Daly ones from Pallaskenry, Limerick in particular but I'm not too fussed really I'd try any.
It's just I don't fancy drivin half way up the country for the sake of 1 hurley and wouldn't mind payin the extra few quid to get it sent out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Portumna manager Johnny Kelly makes them for Joe Canning. Went to collect 2 hurls i had ordered ages ago off him yesterday and Joe had taken them on me, along with all the others he had in the workshop. No have to wait to get mine again! I know he's good but thou shall not steal another mans hurl!

I bumped into Joe yesterday in Naas at the kids hurling camp...If I had known he had your hurls I would have set the kids on him....;)

O'Brien from Drangan in South Tipp makes serious hurls definitely the nicest ive ever used. Torpey from Clare would be fairly well regarded down that kneck of the country, nearly sure i heard fat joe uses Bulfins too...

Don't know much about Bulfin, but I've always liked Falconer hurls from Piltown in Kilkenny. Good weight (a little heavier than most) and agreat spring.

Liam Walsh in Lisgoold near Midleton Co Cork makes a fine Hurley, he makes them for Brian Corcoran and Joe Deane and alot of the Cork and Waterford teams.

Donal og's book was interesting, all praise for Liam Walshs hurleys but yet he commments a few times about breaking hurleys just pucking around ( sliotars breaking hurleys) and also about all the hurleys cloyne snrs were breaking at training, surely this says something about the qualityof hurleys?

Indoor Hurleys folks..

I'm looking to get a good batch for the club, have exhausted Google. We currently have Curran hurleys, but i personally dont like them and think they are a waste of time. O Neills do a really good indoor Hurley with grip on it and ash coloured rubber bas, but they dont do them below 28".
Has anyone got good indoor hurleys and if so, from where??

john torpey hurleys in clare are fantastic hurleys wen he hand makes them, not so great from machine

Lash go lor hurls are good or star hurls alott of clubs use john torphy's also there is a new sort of hurley called Cultec don't really know much about them they do make both indoor and outdoor hurleys. Check them out at http://www.cultec.ie/

I've only ever had one and it was a lovely stick, nice weight and a really good spring. Needless to say, it broke very easily!:(

I've bought numerous hurleys from Faulkner (who I presume your talking about from Piltown) over the past 15 odd years. Presently I wouldn't light the fire with them.

When Sonny Faulkner was making them, handmade in his shed out the back of his house, they were the nicest hurls you'd ever see, but unfortunately since Sonny passed away (RIP), the business was really commercialised, hurleys are now machine made and really bad quality.

In saying that, He'll have the hurleys made for you within 48 hours..
so if your stuck, he'll sort you out.

Best hurleymaker by far near Piltown would be Frank Murphy in Kilmeaden. Ask him to make you a copy of whatever hurley your using at the moment and he'll do a great job on it. A good few of the Waterford players would use him.

I would have used O'Brien for maybe 5 of the last 6 years, probably bought 15 or 20 hurleys from him. Some of them are absolute beautys but I find it's hit and miss with him. What I found important was/is, ALWAYS ask him to make you a handmade hurley. It shows when he puts a little bit extra time into it.

A lot of the Tipperary players would use him. Hurleys/players I've seen in the shed include Eoin Kelly, Paul Curran, Lar and also I seen a couple of hurleys from Paul Flynn and Clinton Hennessey been mended.

One other hurley maker I've used in Tipperary is a man from Kilcash (just outside Kilshelan) - his name escapes me at the moment, but he makes a nice hurley

Is it the list above? If so, there's no problem linking to it. I think the ban on posting phone numbers in the charter is to stop people stupidly posting their personal phone numbers online and to stop people pimping their own businesses.

I missed your link An Citeog. It's one that I'll be saving for myself for future reference.

A lot of the ones in your link would be on it but theres a few extra, mostly Tipperary hurleymakers on the one in the link.

I don't want to sound like L'Ash Go Leor sales rep Tuliphead but they make a decent stick. Over the years, I always used Stars, but they can take ages from when you order one, to when you get it. I've heard good things about the O'Briens. But, like most things in life, it's all down to individual taste, one man's Mary Harney, could be another man's Cheryl Cole. (Doubt it though)

Why not just come right out and say that you're involved with them in some way?

What's so great about the hurl? What sets them apart from the other hurley makers throughout Ireland? Are they all machine made or can you get them hand made aswell? Where do you source the ash from? Are there any county players using your hurls at the moment?
