Laptop speed required for mobile broadband to work

Don't know if anyone can answer this. We live in the sticks in Offaly but Meteor apparently can cover it for the mobile broadband but it's going to be a bit slow.

Our current laptop is completely buggered, have to get a new one anyway, & the mobile broadband won't work on it. It's one of those real small Dell ones, it has a virus...anyway

If we were to get a laptop say with 1gb RAM, 1.8 ghz, do you think that would do the trick.
The lap tops with over 2ghz tend to be pretty pricey.

The laptop spec is meaningless, and will not have any baring on the mobile midband capability.

If Meteor is available, it will likely be EDGE, not 3G. Max speed is about 230kbps, so pretty slow.

The only way mobile midband won't work on a computer is if there are no USB ports, or the modem isn't supported by the OS.

That's probably what the problem is then. My brother in law tried it on his own newer & better laptop in the house & it worked on his.

The current Meteor offerings are Windows and Linux compatible. All you need is a USB port. The Dell shouldn't be an issue. I use an Asus Eee 900 with mine a lot, when I'm in Dublin.
