Advice on Buying Set of Golf CLubs

I'd like to buy a set of golf clubs for the OH as he has an interest in taking it up but is only a beginner.

I don't want to spend a fortune on a set but would like to get a fairly good set. I have had a look at the web-sites and full sets are fairly hard to come by.

I'm just wondering what a good set would be. The best set I've seen so far are Wilson's? Would this set be considered an ok set?

Also had a look at Golf Store Europe and they have a Ben Sayers set - which I have never heard of - but looks to be fairly similar to the Wilson set.

The only other sets I've seen are (RAM - never heard of it), Spalding & Top-Flight (for some reason I have it in my head that neither of these are good brands).

I'm just a bit confused about what would be a good set so any advice would be appreciated.

You generally put together a set yourself, usually from one brand. They will help you in a golf shop. for a beginer, a set would enerally include:

a driver, putter, rescue club, 5,6,7,8,9 irons, pitching wedge, sand wedge & a golf bag.

There are lots of good makes: Cobra, Ping, Mizzuno, Teitlest, Callaway, Nike.

One brand worth looking at is MD Golf, who do a fantastic range at affordable prices.

Budgets can run from €200 to well over €2000. Also you should try to get at least 10% discount from the shop.

The better the brand, unfortunately the higher the price.. If your other half is serious about game, perhaps it would be worthwhile investing in a half decent set that will last him a while.
