Getting into water or sewage treatment

    I have an interest in water treatment and would like to get into the industry. However, I haven't come across any ads for such jobs or on the Dublin city council website.
    Any know how I'd go about doing this? I've an Engineering degree btw.

    From what I see most of the city and county councils ( and industrial waste treatment plant operators) contract out the design and installation of the waste water treatment facilities to engineering companies specialialising in such equipment, so it might be worth contacting companies like EPS Ireland or Response Engineering or Water technology Ireland. If thats what your after

    Hi,

    Theres a recruitment freeze on in all Local Authorities at the moment, i have heard that it will be 5 years before they will be hiring again.

    Try get in with some contractors who operate the water/wastewater treatment plants around the country.
    It may be difficult to get a job with these companies with no experience.

    You could write to the local authority explaining your situation and asking for some unpaid work experience. I work for DCC (Drainage & Wastewater), last summer we had an italian guy who had a masters in environmental engineering but no experience come in and shadow some of the engineers for about a month/6weeks.

    If nothing else itd give you some practical experience to talk about at an interview, and contacts in the LA if you do get a job!

    If you do decide to contact the LA, write to the Divisional Engineer (Wastewater Services/ Drainage Division / Water Division).
