i have a lidl windproof top which seems pretty good but today tried on a gore phantom windstopper which was really nice but didnt seem to be all that different, considering there is around 100 euros difference pricewise is the difference in quality really worth it?

Lidl are great, but Goretex products are technical excellence. Goretex > lidl, in my books.

Well I would think the biggest difference would be in relation to breathability! You might find that the lidl top will block out wind, so will a refuse sack or plastic bag, but you could find it a bit sweaty and clammy if it warms up a bit of if you are really putting the hammer down! Hope this helps (also, I hear the Gore bike wear is just a gift!)...best of luck! ;)

I've a Goretex Paklight jacket which is windproof. Usually causes me to me a bit too warm however it worked perfectly today. Stopped the wind and rain even though it was awkful out!

Breathable and Windproof are different scales though. You can't have very breathable and very windproof. The Gore gear does get it quite well for winter wear however.
