NTL DVR box shut off - but I can still hear it working

Hi,

My UPC DVR box powered of at about 10:15 - as it in shut off, no standby light or clock - but I can still hear the hard drive/fan working away.

is this happening with anybody else?

When mine is on standby it still makes the same sound, I can hear it over the tv if the volume is low :rolleyes:

If I shut it off with the switch it shuts up.

you misunderstand (maybe I didn't explain properly)

the noise isn't the issue - the box has shut off completely

I called UPC who did the usual "unplug it, plug it in again" and it powered back up but channels are gone and the the box shuts off again after a few seconds

I 'm waiting for an engineer to call back

I got my first box last week and there was a low hum off it when it was in standby.

I rang UPC and they replaced it. It was almost like a transformer sound.

The second one also hums. I rang UPC and they are waiting to get my first one back to look at it.

I will give it a few days and call them again.
